Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oster 6058 6-Slice Digital Convection Toaster Oven, Stainless Steel

Customer Review: Bad controls and underpowered
Summary: 2 Stars

I have 2 problems with this toaster oven.
The first is with its controls. It has
the type of buttons that provide no physical feedback when you
press them. Most appliances with these type of buttons give an
audible feedback when a button is pressed. This one
does not. It is therefore difficult to know if you have pressed
the button hard enough for it to register.

The second problem is that the toaster is under-powered. It takes
too long to make toast. My old toaster oven was much quicker.

Customer Review: It was fine until it caught on FIRE!
Summary: 2 Stars

We bought our Oster a little over two years ago. Liked pretty much all aspects of it until one day I was making a small batch of cookies and smelled something odd. When I went to go check it out I saw that the electric circuitry had caught fire and was burning in the interior of the oven! Scared me, I unplugged it from the wall and threw some baking soda on it. Was not good. After the fact, I read through some reviews and realized that the Oster catching fire was not an isolated incident. I cannot recommend this oven due to safety issues.

Customer Review: Worst possible instructions
Summary: 1 Stars

I am an 87-year old widower who tries to do all things for myself. The user manual that came with the toaster leaves a tremendous lot to be desired. There are things that come with the oven that are not even pictured in the book . . how am I to be expected to use this? The real payoff came when I called Oster and got some "snip" who essentially let me know that what I got is what I get. The Oster people can take a lesson from the makers of the George Forman grill who are smart enough to give even the finest details, recipes, and hints.

Customer Review: Improving the Toast Situation
Summary: 4 Stars

I like hearty whole wheat bread (Great Harvest variety) toasted until it is obviously browner. Most of the time the bread I toast is frozen. So, the toast cycle on this oven doesn't work very well for me.

However, the pizza cycle is 400 degrees and the time can be changed between 0 and 20 minutes. So I use the pizza cycle at 10 minutes for toast the way I like it. I realize this isn't a perfect solution for everyone, but it is a way to get around the frustration of not getting dark enough toast on the toast cycle.

Customer Review: Great product but hard to find accessories
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased my Oster digital convection toaster oven a couple months ago, I have been very happy with it. In the summer time it gets up to 115 where I live so this is much better than heating up the large over. The Oster does get hot and you need to be careful placing it under a counter. The convection fan causes the food to brown more on one side than the other. I have been searching for cooking sheets to fit inside but like other reviewers, they are all just a hair to large.
All in all I am very happy with my oven.
