Like any other appliance I own I had to get to know it a bit before we got along, but now I make any kind of eggs I want perfectly! It took a bit of practice to determine the exact level of water I wanted for my poached eggs (I'm very picky) but I found if I fill it to just below the suggested line they come out perfectly for me. I use it at least once a week to hard-boil a few eggs for breakfast, in addition to my poached egg urges on the weekends.
I did find that if I don't take them out immediately after they're done they will overcook a bit, so my only beef with this cooker is the lack of beeper to indicate it's done. But, as others have said, the "click" of it going off is fairly loud and I can hear it from the next room. I do wish the parts were dishwasher safe, but I've found they're very easy to wipe down so it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make!
My husband was against getting it (are we so lazy we can't boil a pot of water and throw the eggs in?!) but after a year and a half he grudgingly admits it's very handy (and hasn't boiled a pot of water since we got it)

So many people don't know what they're missing! This is a FABULOUS product! I had a Sunbeam egg cooker for over 20 years, which finally died. I searched high and low for the exact same cooker and this product was the closest, well actually the same product but with improvement. I really like the automatic shut off feature. This was very important to me, as I'm not one to stand around to watch eggs cook! I like the see-through lid. If you want to watch, you can tell if the poached eggs are almost done or not. And let me tell you about the poached eggs this cooker makes - YUM! Cooks them perfectly! IF I wanted the poached egg yolks real runny, I could add less water and IF I wanted the poached eggs cooked with totally solid yolk, I could add more water slightly over the fill level. The water fill levels are easy - no measuring cups needed. The only feature I miss is being able to unplug the cord from the unit to store inside, but, oh well!
Again, I love this unit! I even travel with it. I highly recommend it.

I tell you, on the days I use this little device--I lose weight. And that's because I have a couple of hard-boiled eggs around. Furthermore, they are easy to peel, and perfectly cooked, the yolk creamy and not dry. Once a week or so, I put my extra eggs into a sweet little bath of whatever vinegar I have a taste for, whatever spices, and enjoy pickled eggs.
And it's all made possible by this device. I have experienced no problems after several months of use, it is easy to clean, and it makes hard-boiled, soft-boiled, and poached eggs completely easy and completely fool-proof. I clean mine by holding the water well under warm running water (with the electrical end up and above the water flow) and run a brush over it, and any small eggy residue whisks right off. The residue comes from the fact that one pierces the eggs with a tiny built-in --tooth before starting the cycle.
Of course reviewers who said the finished signal should be more audible are right. It makes you pay attention.

I love this egg cooker so much that I have purchased 2 others for gifts, and the recipients have raved about it. This gadget makes cooking hard boiled eggs a breeze-way easier than boiling and timing them in a pot of boiling water on the stove. Plus, when you hard boil eggs in this cooker they are a snap to peel, nothing like eggs boiled on the stove. You can also flawlessly soft-boil and poach eggs with it. I bought this because I wanted to keep hard-boiled and pickled eggs on hand for a healthy snack, and I was sick of my not-so-perfect stove-top cooking times and the hassle of peeling hard-boiled eggs. I am so glad I purchased this. I reach for eggs now when I'm hungry instead of crackers or some other processed food because of this cooker. My waist line shows it, too. I've lost weight since snacking on eggs as opposed to crackers! Finally, this cooker is simple to clean.
I highly recommend this product. It's well worth its price. Plus Amazon has free shipping on it, so it's a great buy from all angles.

So far, so good! I replaced the Sunbeam egg cooker obtained when we married 45 years ago -- it lasted that long. Now that the Sunbeam has become the Oster egg cooker, we will see how it holds up. I am pleased that the size remains the same -- compact & convenient. (The original Sunbeam had a heavy metal base and heavy plastic lid.) Thus far the Oster has worked fine. The only problem I have had is determing the correct water level -- getting used to the new measurement lines -- to get the results I want. So far the only real disadvantage I see is that I must remain in the kitchen while it is on because the "click" when finished is not loud enough to hear from another room. I am very glad to have an egg cooker again!
I also have to comment on the amazing speed of receiving my order! It only took 2 or 3 days and I had not purchased express shipping. I was very pleased. Oster 4716 Egg Cooker
