When I first saw this electric wine opener I was a little skeptical. I mean battery powered, come on. But after watching the review video, I thought, "give it a try". On the first bottle of wine I opened the cork would not come out of the opener. I thought well I've been had. Bummer. As I looked at the situation and tried to figure out what went wrong, I noticed that the cork was turning with the corkscrew. I put my finger on the cork to prevent it from turning and it came right out!!!
I have since opened at least ten (10) bottles and every one worked perfectly. No more putting a finger on the cork. Maybe it just needed to cycle once. I love it and it makes opening wine so easy.

I got this from Amazon a while back. I love mine. I had a Stock the Bar party and it worked on every bottle and the half dozen I've opened since. If you consider yourself a sophisticated wine drinker you may not like it. It is much bigger, louder than I had imagined. Pretend it is a Black n Decker cordless drill with a bit that opens wine. That's all it really is anyway. You really have to grab on when you open the bottle so you tend to feel retarded when the bottle starts to spin out of control. Or some at least some of the girls that have used it looked that way. But I could care less. I like drinking the wine, I'm lazy and a little bit on the gadget side! I bought this item with high hopes based on the positive reviews. When it works it is great but there is a problem. It says it does 30 bottles on a single charge but not so. I charge it all night and it does about one bottle (maybe) and then the battery goes dead. Right now it is stuck with a cork on it and the battery is so dead I cannot get the cork off. I had to use a knife to cut the cork off to even put it on the charger. I should have returned it right away, since it has done this from the start. Maybe I got a 'lemon', I don't know, but I am not a happy camper at this point. Right now to use it I have to charge it every time and maybe if I am lucky get one bttole out of it.Customer Review: Oster Review

We first ordered this product last January. It operated quite well until a couple of months ago, July as I recall, when it failed completely. That, I think, is a very poor track record, 6 or 7 months! Being rather handy with tools, I tried to locate the wiring problem and tracked it down to the circuit board. I could go no further with my quest.
Having a wife with minimal hand strength we decided to replace it. I hoped I could find a source for just the bad unit, not the charger or base, but failed.
The only reason we reordered was my wife's desire for independence. Except for that, I think this is a poor product given its life expectancy.

I asked for this opener last year as a Christmas present and was pleasantly surprised that it worked so well. I hate conventional corkscrews as they require a lot of work & sometimes the corks split & remain in the neck of the bottle. This little wine opener is the best present that I have received in a long time. I love it, and people always laugh when I use it. They know that I am a serious wine drinker. It does take up some counter space, but I only plug it in and charge it once in awhile. Does not need to remain on charge, so you can keep the charger in a drawer. Great gift to give too!!! I have had this since last Christmas, and it is still going strong!!!!
