Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oster 4093 Classic Beehive Blender, SilverCustomer Review: great, but 3 Stars
we bought this blender about a year ago and it is still going STRONG!!! i LOVE how it works - GREAT for smoothies!!! but this thing is LOUD!!! we're talking WARN everyone on the first floor of your house that you're about to turn it on LOUD!!! i don't DARE try to turn this on if the baby is sleeping - even in an upstairs room with the door closed!!! my husband takes him into another room if he is awake because once i used it with him right there and it SCARED him!!!!! this baby LOVES the vacuum, but HATES this blender!!! my 5 and 7 year old put their hands over their ears or use hearing protection when it gets turned on. if i don't announce to the house i'm using it, i have tearful kids who say "you scared us!!!"
it's a good thing that it doesn't take long to use!!! just a minute or two and i have perfect smoothies, milkshakes, etc. it is a 5 star blender with a 1 star noise level!!! YIKES!!!
i LOVE how it works, so i guess i'm keeping it, i just wish i had known it was so LOUD!!!!!!
Customer Review: cheap plastic base Summary: 2 Stars
I had an Oster Blender that worked great for 30 years. When it died, I thought I could do no wrong in purchasing another Oster brand. I purchased the beehive for its 500/600 watt ice crushing/smoothie making ability. $56.00 is a little pricey and I thought I was purchasing a good quality item. The glass jar and the chrome base seem to be good quality materials. However, the blender jar base(part that holds blade/rubber ring) is of very thin cheap plastic. It broke after just a few uses. Of course the store would not take it back after 60 days.
Luckily I had not thrown out the old Oster blender. I took the old glass jar base (good heavy plastic)and it fit the new Oster.
Another problem with this blender: The plastic part on the chrome base that holds the jar base is also of cheap thin plastic. Cheap plastic attached to a heavy chrome base doesn't make good engineering sense to me. I keep waiting for it to break.
Come on, Oster, put good quality materials into your products!!!!
Customer Review: Best Value Blender for Dog Lovers Summary: 5 Stars
Not everyone will relate to this review, but those of you who feed Dr. Billinghurst's BARF diet to canines, look no further for your next blender! My old Oster blender of THIRTY-ONE years finally died last month. For the last TWELVE of those years I had been using the blender on an almost daily basis to grind fruits and veggies for my pack of Dalmatians. When the old blender finally gave up the ghost I came to Amazon within the hour to order a new "Osterizer."
The old blender had many speeds and a plastic jar, and since I needed just one speed, "liquify," this blender was the obvious choice. Yes, it's loud, and it surprised the Dals on the first go-round, but what used to take my old blender one full minute to process, it takes the Oster 4093-008 only fifteen seconds to puree everything to a fine, pudding-like quality.
So, if you're looking for a blender that blends to perfection and will last for thirty years (!), this is the one for you.
Customer Review: make sure you get custody of this blender if you and your spouse split up Summary: 5 Stars
Oh sure, I tried other brands, letting the ex keep the old beehive blender when I moved out. We'd inherited that from his parents who'd had since before McCain was born. Workhorse. The blender, I mean.
Big mistake to let that blender go. Tried other brands. Phooey. Finally replaced the beehive. Nothing works like this powerhouse of a blender. Grinds through ice in nothing flat. Smoothies are a cinch. Blends and mixes faster than the food processor. Cleans much more easily. Looks classy on the countertop.
Bonus: the pitcher is one piece: one solid piece of glass: no separate handles, bands or tricky hidden trigger deals in the lid that only sometimes trip the on or off switch ... like the terrible other brand of blender I just threw away.
And who knew you could make Jello desserts in a blender? Dude - you add boiling water to the Jello, crushed ice, other stuff and it sets up in 15 minutes. Shazzam.
Customer Review: disappointed Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this because I have always had an "Osterizer." I inherited my grandmother's from the 60's and it still works. I needed another since I now have a country house and a city apt. I have always liked the fact that it had only an on/off switch since I could never understand why blenders came with 8 buttons that did nothing more than make the machine go faster or slower no matter what they called it (puree, blend, whip, etc.).
The new one is cheaply made and VERY noisy. The old machines were made with a metal screw cap on bottom while the new ones are plastic. The plastic bottom screw cap cracked within three weeks as I tried to tighten it before use. I had to order a new one on-line but still could not find a metal replacement.
The glass pitcher wobbles no matter how I place it.
I am so sad since Oster was a sentimental favorite.
