Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oster 4093 Classic Beehive Blender, SilverCustomer Review: Fabulous U.S.A. made blender Summary: 5 Stars
This is a well made blender. We've had this blender for about 8 years or so and has never given us any problems. The blender was first purchased at a Service Merchandise department store back when Service Merchandise was around. I think we paid about $75.00 dollars but it's paid for itself many times over.
On ocassion my sister and I will make smoothies with the Blend-N-Go cups; which is a great accessory to any Osterizer blender. We usually pack the cup with frozen fruit and then add either milk or orange juice. Usually it will take about 10-15 pulses and the smoothie is done. No more Jamba Juice smoothies for our family. We can make them just as fast and a lot cheaper at home!
We've also used the blender to puree soups and grind coffee beans and it does a superb job. It crushes ice completly for a smooth, almost Icee, Slurpee style Margarita. It's really a great machine. I highly recommend this model.
Please note: I have the exact one pictured on here. This particular model has 350 watts of power and not 500 watts like the other very similar ones available. Also, this one is made here in the U.S.A. not made in Mexico like the newer models of the Oster Beehive.
Customer Review: Perfect for Bodybuilders/Fitness People Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned this blender for 18 months. I am a competitive natural bodybuilder, and as such, I make anywhere between 4 and 8 shakes a day. I cannot attest to its use for blending solid foods or ice - the "hardest" thing I have blended in it are oats. I have used it almost exclusively for blending various powders in water/milk.
- The simple Pulse/ON switch is easy to use and requires zero brainpower - perfect for those 6:00am or middle-of-the-night shakes.
- The container is very thick and solid. I've never dropped it, but I've smacked it into plenty of stuff and it's as good as the day I bought it.
- After making anywhere between 2500 and 3500 shakes in the last 18 months, I have noticed NO decrease in power. (this blender is very loud, if that matters to you)
- The lid (which I abuse horribly) is in 95% of it's original condition (a very small crack in the lip).
Again - I'm sure blending ice/foods frequently will result in a different experience than I have had. However, for anyone who uses their blender for simple protein/carb shakes - I really doubt you can do any better than this for the price (possibly the Professional Series).
Customer Review: THE LITTLE BLENDER THAT COULD Summary: 5 Stars
OK, it's not really small, but this classic styled blender is the one I have been searching for for years. For years I had a fancy schmancy blender with 10 different "settings"-what a joke...they JUST BLEND at different speeds (and poorly at that). After drinking smoothies and shakes with ice lumps, regardless of how long I let it run, I ditched my "designer blender" in search of a unit that performed.
I know you are thinking, how could it be so good for such a low price? Face it, you are buying a blender and that's what it does. It has a 500 hp motor that makes short work or ice or anything else in it....(smooth lump free smoothies!)and quite frankly, it has 3 settings Off, low and high. What else do you really need? Could you really tell the difference between puree and frappe on your old belnder?
This baby does the trick. Yeah it is loud, but so is a Harley, and who doesn't want one of those too? It has a cool retro look, a solid glass jar, and the jar fits easily on top of the base (unlike my old one which had to be "locked in").
Inexpensive, powerful, easy to use. What the heck else do you want? Get this belnder, you will not be sorry.
Customer Review: Used for a year and a half and it's still great! Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent blender. I haved used it to make smoothies at least once a week for a year and a half, and it's never let me down. It cuts through frozen fruit in no time flat, and makes quick work of soup, gravy, pancake batter, etc etc etc. And I love the simple switch --- just on, off, and pulse. Honestly, what does a blender need a separate "puree" and "liquify" setting for?
I have no negatives about this product per se, but I do have two cautionary notes:
(1) It's loud! This is good thing, because it means that it has a powerful motor. But fair warning to those of you who make early-morning smoothies or midnight snacks.
(2) The blade is really, really sharp. Again, this is a good thing, but it means that you need to be very careful when you're cleaning it.
The negative reviews that I've seen here are mostly about sudden failures (switch stopped working, etc.). I'm sure that things do break occasionally, as with any appliance, but I can't really speak to these issues. I can say that after 18 months, I've never had any mechanical problems no matter what I was blending.
Bottom line: For price and performance, this blender is unbeatable!
Customer Review: Fantastic, but LOUD Summary: 4 Stars
I never use any of the buttons on a blender other than "off" and "full speed". So I just wanted a blender that could easily handle ice and essentially had an on/off switch.
This is it, and it is great looking too.
I use this for making protein shakes with frozen fruit, and it does it with ease. The glass jar is sturdy and cleans easily (dishwasher or by hand).
The only two negatives I can say about it are:
1) the "chrome" ring at the top of the base, where the blender locks into to spin the blades, is not metal but plastic - it feels like it will be what breaks first on this unit. It hasn't broken or even shown any problems, but it feels like the weak point in the design.
2) LOUD!!!! Other reviewers said this was loud, but I had hoped maybe they were just overly sensitive. But no, this thing is painfully loud. All blenders are going to be noisy, that is a function of the device - but this one is ... wow.
I actively dislike having to use it because it is so loud, so I try to limit the amount of time it is on - not that I would normally let it run for very long - but I cannot stress enough how annoyingly loud this thing is.
