What a great little steamer!!! The rim around the bottom piece makes it rigid enough to easily pick up as opposed to most silicone bakeware that collapses when you try to pick them up. Dishwasher safe, microwave safe and oven safe, who could ask for more?
The 20 oz. oval is the perfect size for steaming an ear of corn, a handfull of green beans or a nice bunch of asparagus. It is useful for reheating left-overs like mashed potatoes or casserole. Reheat rolls by adding a drop or two of water, microwaving for a few seconds, and letting them sit covered in the steamer for a minute. My booklet didn't come with any suggested times for vegetables but they're pretty much common sense anyway. This steamer is really perfect for using with sensor-cook microwave ovens and I've had excellent results each time I've used it. It did come with a few healthy-sounding recipes which I may try.
The one place I don't think you should use this would be in a toaster oven. The close proximity to the heating elements would probably damage it.
I'll soon be buying more of the Orka products now that I know they work so well.
