I've had this for over a year now and it pretty much works as advertised, but not a lot better than a knife and a pair of scissors. As far as safety goes, it's only slightly safer than using a knife to open, since the openx uses a blade (resembles a box knife) that retracts into the handle to make the first cut so that the package opening blade can be inserted. The products' construction is pretty good, feels solid, hard plastic and a sharp blade.Customer Review: Handy but 50% fuctional

I purchased these for home and gifts but in using it for about a year. Only the lower, spring loaded blade is useful. The front blade is too dull for most cutting, too thick to get in a box .. so I don't use that part.
Good features: Good hand grip, bright yellow so I find it quickly, large enough to find easily and has no rough edges to dig into my hands. Better than using sissors. Handy with packages and boxes I receive.

This is useless to me. The blade that is used to puncture the package must be held in the extended position while using it. It is designed to be held with the thumb of the RIGHT hand. It is extremely awkward if not impossible to use it with the left hand, and I don't want to try cutting anything with my right (I am extremely left-handed).
Buy a Swiss Army Knife. I can get packages open much quicker with one of those!

I thought this would be a nifty gadget, safer than a knife and easier to use than scissors. Also figured that for ~ $5.00 I couldn't go wrong... So much for that theory. This thing is completely useless. It's very poor quality, dull, and ergonomically awkward. It simply won't perform as advertised. After trying to open two packages I tossed it into the garbage and went back to my Leatherman tool. Don't waste your money!Customer Review: Only good for the thinnest bubble plastic

To be honest......a regular box cutter works better....as you tend to use the break open blade more than the main slide blade as it cannot cut through very thick plastics easily.
I got 2 of these to see if they were a better option.....alas they are NOT better than my good old 3M and EXACTO box openers.
Methinks I only break it out to use to not feel horrible that I wasted some money on these.
