Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Onion Chopper The Quick Safe and Simple Way to Chop up Your Fruits, VegetablesCustomer Review: Love it. Summary: 4 StarsI have been using it for almost an year on daily basis to chop onions, carrots, potatoes and it works fine. Onions have to be cut into 4 pieces inorder to be put into the chopper. So far i did not face any problems. The bottom part is made of plastic, almost similar to a plastic blender jar, so it needs to be handled little carefully or it might break. For the price, i think this onion chopper rocks.
Customer Review: Better than I expected Summary: 4 StarsMy husband brought this home to be helpful. My first reaction was "Not that!" as I saw the As-Seen-on-TV tag. Great, just what I need...another worthless kitchen gadget.
I finally used it today for the first time. Today's Chopping Line-up:
- 2 large onions (peeled & cut in half top-to-bottom like the directions say) Large Blade
- 2 Anaheim peppers, seeded and cut into pieces to fit the grid - had a bit of a problem on this one, until I turned the pepper skin side up. Fine Blade
- 4 whole potatoes (3-4oz ea), peeled - didn't dice or cube them, but got pieces like two cubes stuck together. Ok for my purposes, but I will watch that in the future. Large Blade
It was easy to clean, not problem to get the food out of the grates. I saw that while the measuring part was not helpful today, in other uses it could be very handy. The only bad thing I can say is that some of it needed a LOT of pressure to chop the food. If you have limited strength for pushing down on the top, this is not for you.
VS - Food Processor - this is better for getting chunks...not sliced or grated...just chunks in one of two sizes. Both require pre-cutting to an appropriate size.
VS - Knife - this is faster, no onion crying, more uniform. Still, you can't vary the cut, and need to make sure item is cut to the right size to use first.
Bottom Line - Overall I am surprised and impressed. Worked better and easier than I expected. Has some limitations, but none I did not already expect. Worth the space in my cupboard? - Yes
Edited to add - it seems the dog has decided that this is a "popper". That is a designation used for things that send her into a complete panic...such as fireworks. I still use but not as often as I normally would. If you have a dog who is also "allergic to poppers" you may want to rethink this purchase
Customer Review: Awesome chopper Summary: 5 StarsThis chopper is such a great time-saver. I use it to chop green peppers and onions for Spanish rice, and tomatoes for salsa - in seconds! Sometimes it takes a couple of taps on the top, but always makes uniform bitesize pieces. The comb that comes with is handy for cleaning residue from the top. Cleanup is easy too.
Customer Review: Onion Chopper Summary: 5 StarsI LOVE IT. I'm so glad I finally ordered this. So much faster to get the job done by using this. Buy one, you'll see what i mean.
