The OneTouch Jar Lid Opener is one product that will do what the advertisement says it will. It is really great for opening jar lids like you find on pickle jars, etc. but will open other kinds of tops, too. It is very strong and durable. I broke my first one because I failed to see and remove all of the packaging on a jar of pickles. It opened the jar lid but broke in the process. I use to have to open these jar lids by hitting a knife or some other object against the lid.

I was a little skeptical when I bought this at first, but was pleasantly surprised with how well it operates. With a good set of batteries, it's not really an issue of how well the jar is sealed, this opener has a good record of getting those lids off. What does seem to be a problem is that it cannot get a good grip on some jars with strangely shaped neck areas. If the neck is too small or too steeply sloped, the outer jaws of the machine will not find purchase and it will fail to open.
Overall it was worth buying, it's getting a lot of use, but there is still the occasional jar that it is unable to open.

I bought this maybe 6 months ago. I doubt I used 12 times during that period. It worked well when I did use it - until last week I tried to use it. It would not stop putting pressure on the lid after it had loosened the lid, and made a loud noise as it kept trying to press more. I tried to take off to stop it. I couldn't. All of a sudden, it broke all to pieces - exploded! The plastic arms broke off. For the past several years I have noticed opening new jars of pickles, jam, jelly--anything--kept getting more and more difficult. Then my wife and I saw this gadget on television, and I knew we needed to get one. Well, time slips away when you're not looking, but finally we got one, and jars in our house are no longer geezer-proof (I can say that, I am one). It works great, so great that I wanted to open every new jar in the house, but my wife said if I did I would have to go to bed without supper. But I've got to tell you, this appliance is a great addition to our kitchen. Thank you, Amazon.com!Customer Review: A little wonder

First I must say that this neat little gadget is SLOW. It would be a lot quicker to just thump the edge of the jar on the floor to release the seal. However, now that I have hard wood in the kitchen, I needed another option.
This jar opener would be a perfect solution for the elderly and others who have weak hands or an injury. I have owned mine for about six months and have good luck with it opening all sized jars. Just hold down the button and off it goes.
It's simple to operate and stores easily due to its small size. Definitely a keeper, if you don't mind the wait!
