Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OneTouch Can OpenerCustomer Review: Mine works great...but is older Summary: 5 Stars
I was given one of these as a gift from my neighbor probably 3 years ago. About a year ago, I finally pulled it out of the cabinet to try for the first time (I thought it was probably too gimicky to work and was actually about to donate it). Turns out I love it, and have never had any trouble with any can. I was just ready to order a few for gifts, but am a bit concerned due to some of the more recent poor reviews. I am wondering if possibly the quality has declined? If it wasn't a gift, I really wouldn't care so much. I just last week replaced the batteries for the first time, so have had no issue there. The only thing I sometimes prefer the old can opener style for is when I want to 'drain' the contents of the can with the lid pushed down in. For those who don't know (I didn't) the entire top of the can is removed from the sides...rim and all.
Customer Review: WHAT A JOKE Summary: 1 Stars
What a joke this thing is....
I wonder how products like this even make it out of the test kitchens/laboratories. I mean seriously, if all it takes to invent a product is a good pitch man then I'm in the wrong business. I'm going to turn into an inventor.
I will not waste any words or time on this piece of trash.
We bought into the pitch man's advertisement and picked this thing up...
It NEVER WORKED RIGHT. NOT ONCE.
You put it on the can, start it and then it would stop in the middle of the can. The reset button didn't work the opener became stuck on the can and then we had the pleasure of PRYING THE THING OFF OF THE CAN which took a lot of work. We tried replacing batteries...nope. NOTHING.
ZERO STARS.
WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND EVER EVER EVER!
Customer Review: Wonderful Little Gadget Summary: 5 Stars
I was given this can opener as a gift from my mom. She had heard me complaining about my standard can opener not being able to open tomato sauce cans. From the first time I used it, I have loved this One-Touch Opener. You set it on top of the can, push the button and it opens. The battery storage slides off fairly easily and, of course, the battery life depends on how much it is used. One time, the batteries ran out while I was opening a can. After a short panic, I found on the bottom of the opener a phone number to call. I spoke to a live person and was told how to easily dislodge the opener from the can so the batteries could be changed out. Simple, easy to use, dependable. Much more dependable than any other opener I have ever owned in my 54 years. In response to some of the negative reviews, you have to be smarter than the machine.
Customer Review: Zero Stars for a Complete Rip Off Summary: 1 Stars
This can opener is complete garbage.
Other reviews have told the story about how this thing does not work. I tried it three times, each time with new batteries, and it grunted to a stop after a millisecond.
Had to battle with the thing all three times, twisting and turning the stupid can opener to free it from its grasp on the side of the can. The seam broke and leaked juice all over the counter.
The "handy" screw to back the can opener up, was of very little use.
You are better off with a cheap electric can opener any time, or a hand crank can opener.
With this device, you might as well throw 20-bucks out on the lawn.
This piece of garbage ended up in the garbage.
Completely worthless.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
Customer Review: Such a disappointment! Summary: 1 Stars
The first six months I was totally in love with this can opener. Once the batteries started to die, it went downhill. First, when they died the can opener died in the middle of opening something and luckily I had batteries on hand but that could have been a bit of a disaster. Then, it just stopped working altogether for no reason about a week after I replaced the batters.
It happened while in the middle of opening a can and refused to detach on Christmas Day! My husband had to remove it with pliers, destroying it in the process. I had no replacement so it ruined one of my dishes since I could not add the soup to the gravy because I could not get into that can!
As nice as it was to not use my hands to open a can, I have gone back to the old fashioned tool for less money and stress
