This is a great item to have and works very well at opening cans. God help you if the battery runs out before the can is completely open. A hammer will not get it off the can. You can't pry the thing off a can. The adjustment you are supposed to use to back it off in a power failure cannot be reached in most cases when it is on the can. All have been replaced because of the battery problem. This will be our third or forth one because my wife cannot open a can using a normal opener due to arthritis. Otherwise I would not buy one again.Customer Review: GREAT item

I got one for Christmas and was about to dismiss it immediately as just another piece of garbage. Boy! Am I glad I tried it. I LOVE it. The only thing they don't tell you on the instructions is that you have to wait a few seconds after it opens the can to remove the lid or you could break it trying to extract the lid manually. The edge has to receed back so the lid can be easily removed. I put 1 set of batteries in and they are still going strong. Ealy to clean, if you spill something on it. The one pictured in the ad is not the one you will get. Thankfully they are shipping the new improved unit. The new one is smaller/more compact AND most importantly they have redesigned it so that you can change the batteries even while it is in the middle of opening a can. The old design didn't let you do that.
My old designed style One Touch was wonderful (except for the battery access problem) and it lasted for years! I expect the new one to last just as long before the cutting blade/gears wears out.

What pleasure to have a Hands Free Can Opener for several reasons:
1. While busy in the kitchen opening multiple cans for a recipe the Hands Free makes life easier to mutli-task
2. It's a great gift for those with arthritis and the elderly. Makes the torture of manually opening cans history.
The only drawback is that it's battery operated (recycling old batteries, etc). Now if a solar model was introduced...
Nevertheless, we love it and we send these as gifts to all our friends.

One-Touch Automatic Can Opener- White(29101) I thought I had found a miracle can opener! In preparation for hand surgery, I purchased two of these and they both became inoperable within two months. I changed batteries, but did not phone the mfr as I had read online that it was fruitless to do that. I was able to return one of the can openers & have just thrown away the other. A total waste of money!
