Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Old Stone Oven 4467 14-Inch by 16-Inch Baking Stone

Customer Review: love this stone.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great stone, arrived perfectly in one piece, this same stone is rated number #1 by Cooks illustrated Test kitchen. It's a great price, and well worth the money. If you want to make some great Pizza, pair this with the Superpeel, a night and day difference between using a pan and stone. I get the oven hot, 500 degrees, no cracking problems. I preheat the oven to 500 for almost an hour to get the stone nice and hot, pizza cooks in about six minutes, finish it off under the brolier for a nice brown crust and perfectly melted cheese. yum.

Customer Review: Loved it, but it broke
Summary: 3 Stars

This was a nice large stone, that is much thicker than others I have (Pampered Chef and others). I don't know if this is why it finally cracked down the center. I am very careful with stones and this went into the oven cold, heated up to 550F and then let to cool in the oven. Pizza was loaded onto the stone with peels and it was never shock cooled. This lasted a little over a year of use, before cracking in half. Other than that, I loved the stone while it lasted. I'm considering getting another as I might have just received a lemon.

Customer Review: Excellent, heavy baking stone
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this stone for roughly 1.5 years now and it's held up to a lot of use. It's quite large ... nearly fills an oven rack ... so making large loaves or large pizza crusts are easy. Being very thick and heavy, the stone cooks evenly. Do note that the stone is quite heavy ... roughly 11 lbs ... but the little "feet" on the bottom make it easier to hold onto and move around (when cold, of course.) I'm quite pleased with this stone (even more pleased that the price was $10 less when I bought it compared to the $40 listed in 12/2008!

Customer Review: Fine stone
Summary: 5 Stars

My stone arrived safely and in one piece. Once I got the initial odor baked out of it (one heating) it has served me well for breads (hamburger and hot dog buns, naan, pita, pizza). I just leave it in my oven unless I'm baking something that might spatter oil on it.
I'm very happy with the quality and performance of this stone........really gives professional results with all kinds of breads. I even heat it a little to give me a warm place to let my yeast doughs rise because it will hold the heat a long time.
Great purchase!

Customer Review: Produces great crusts
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm sorry so many customers received broken stones in the mail. I ordered mine about 2 months ago, and I was nervous about receiving it in one piece -- but I lucked out. I have been using it regularly since for both pizzas and European-style artisan breads, and it has done a great job of creating crisp, crackling, golden-brown crusts. Paired with the recipes from the book "Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day" I've had wonderful results. I now keep it in the oven all the time as most of my oven use is for baking various types of breads.
