I bought this stone to make artisan bread, & it must heat in the oven for 20 mins. befor you put the bread on it. It stays nice & hot to give ou that crisp bottom crust. I had been using a large tile from the local home improvement store, but it broke in half after jut a few uses. It was cheap, but did not perform as well nor last a LONG TIME like this stone. Don't hesitate to buy it, you'll love it!

We've had this baking stone for several months and make pizza 1-2x/week. Its definitely a step up from an aluminium pan, but no matter how hot/long we preheated, we were not getting a crispy crust unless we put the dough on the stone plain.. and cooked it for several minutes before adding toppings.
As an experiment, I tried a cast iron pancake griddle I had (rectangular)... I got crispy crust the 1st time.

I ordered this as a treat for myself. Because of the snow, it took a week and a half to get here. I was pretty excited when it finally arrived. When I opened the box, it was broken. It was clearly marked on the product box as "fragile" - but not on the shipping box. Who knows what the shipper did with the box during transit. I was pretty disappointed. I asked for a refund and going to go purchase one at a local store.

I received the stone less than an hour ago. The Amazon box looked ok but when I opened the side of the box from the manufacturer I could see it was broken down the middle, not just cracked. The manufacturer's box looked fine with no damage what so ever so I can only speculate that the stone itself was defective when it was packed. It was so bad I didn't even have to take it out of that box to know it was un-usable.

I have made pizza for years, using a standard cookie sheet, but this stone is wonderful for crisp crust on the outside, light and tender on the inside. WARNING! Under no circumstances should you oil your stone! I made the mistake of doing so, after reading on some internet site to "season" it first. I had to replace it before ever baking a pizza on it. Never put anything on your pizza stone but low-oil breads!
