I'm typically a big fan of Oxo products, but with this garlic press they have missed the boat. I used a zyliss susi press for years until it just plain wore out. I bought the oxo because I liked the substantial weight. Unfortunately, the design does not match. It is no where near as good as the zyliss for pressing unpeeled garlic...no real problem I thought, it's not too onerous to peel the garlic before pressing. It's also not very good at pressing peeled garlic either. The plunger does not fit tightly so garlic squeezes out the sides as well as through the screen. It is not very efficient to clean, water collects in the hollow handles. The plating began to wear off within a few weeks. Overall, I'm disappointed...a first for me with an oxo product.Customer Review: Perfectly Perfect

I cannot believe I have lived without this garlic press for so long. This is a wonderful tool. It fits my hand perfectly and the box for the garlic clove is large enough for jumbo garlic. A quick press on the handles (excellent for stress reduction too) produces perfectly pressed garlic. My last garlic press extruded some moisture a little bit of garlic. I then had to dig the mess out of a too small area. Not so with this amazing gizmo.
The only thing left to clean up with this tool is the thin shell of the garlic clove. It was easy to extract because of the large size of the "box." It cleaned up beautifully.
I find myself doubling the amount of garlic called for in recipes just because it is so satifying to use this baby.

The press itself is perfect for garlic. The only problem is that the handles become lose and water gets in. It has become a pain to clean being that I have to remember to take it apart when it goes in the dishwasher if I want a sanitary clean press to come out. And when I do forget I usually get water leaking as a I go to put it away, and it's not clean inside because it is lose enough for water to gather in while in the washer, and needs to be cleaned again. I did a lot of research before purchasing this press and given the ratings took the chance. You can't really predict something like this will happen and its more of a nuisance than anything. I'm afraid I've developed an unhealthy relationship with this garlic press. It's so shiny, and has such lovely heft. Most important, it presses garlic with an incredibly smooth and powerful action. I've started to add way more garlic than normal, just so I can keep using the press.
Post-press, you simply flip over the handle and the nonstick pokey side pushes the garlic remains cleanly out. I usually gather those remains and smush them all back in for a final press. I just can't get enough...
When I'm finished, I just lay it flat in the top section of the dishwasher. It comes out perfectly clean and shiny each time.
You'll love it. Trust me.

Definitely not for those with wrist issues, this garlic press has definitely got some heft to it.
With a smooth lever action, it crushes garlic swiftly and cleanly, all that remains behind is the garlic's 'shell'.
My only complaint is that there is one spot in the deepest part of the press that the garlic shell does get stuck, even with the handy built-in cleaning tool. A quick flick with a finger or a knife solves this issue.
Dishwasher-safe stainless steel and plastic construction is a big plus, less weighty aluminum models will discolor in the dishwasher.
A must for any garlic enthusiast!
