Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Salad Spinner

Customer Review: Great little spinner
Summary: 5 Stars

This product is really easy to use and does exactly what its supposed to. We have a share in an organic farm through our local CSA and you wouldn't believe how many bags of fresh organic lettuces and greens we get each year. It goes without saying that anytime you're getting produce that was picked less then 24 hours ago at the farm, you're also getting lots of nice farm soil also. This little beauty makes quick work of our greens leaving them dry, and in good shape (not all bruised or mangled). Plus if you've got the fridge space it makes a great storage device for the freshly washed and dried greens since the few drops of water left will drip down and keep them from either getting soggy, or dried out.

Customer Review: (22) 1 STAR REVIEWS!
Summary: 1 Stars

The quality of this salad spinner is complete garbage, any good reviews simply did not use it enough to know or used it VERY gingerly. To preface I am obsessively careful with my belongings.

1) The first one I purchased the knob came apart (impossible to put back on) within 20 seconds of testing.

2) Replaced the first one, and on first use of the 2nd one, the lid cracked upon depressing the knob to spin the salad.

3) Though irrelevant after #2, the lock does not slide with the finger indent. You have to wedge your finger between the knob and the lock to unlock the knob.

Shame on OXO for releasing such a substandard product.

Customer Review: Great for removing all the excess water
Summary: 5 Stars

I highly recommend this as one of the must haves in the kitchen. All of the stand alone draining cannot get rid of the excess water from washing. I particularly this OXO brand because it comes with an additional plastic top so I store my leafy greens in the fridge without the spinning rod. I also use it for my fruits, and it has proven especially handy for getting off the moisture from washing my strawberries so I could dip them in chocolate. I did spin some french fries in it to get off the excess grease, but didn't enjoy having to clean out all of those grid spaces, but worked well for this also.

it was very sturdy as I have accidentally dropped it several times.

Customer Review: Great for sprouts, too
Summary: 5 Stars

I have grown my own sprouts in a big jar with some window screen rubber-banded over it since 1979. They are very easy to grow and incredibly nutritious (much more so than lettuce.) But getting them dried off so they won't mold in storage has always been a hassle until I bought this salad spinner. I dump my sprouts into the spinner and fill it up with water. Then I slosh the sprouts around which causes the seed hulls to float to the top where you can slosh them right on out of the bowl. Lift up the inner bowl, dump the water from the outer bowl, spin the sprouts and they are immediately ready for storage. I don't store them in the spinner, but I suppose I could.

Customer Review: Excellent spinner
Summary: 5 Stars

An excellent product. I've been using spinners like this for years and consider it one of the most useful kitchen gadgets I've ever owned. I use it typically once or twice a week, sometimes more often.

It works very well not just as a spinner to remove water, but also as a crisper. Limp lettuce becomes crisp again within hours or even minutes of refrigerator storage in the spinner. I leave a teaspoon or two of water in the bottom, which seems to help keep the lettuce crisp. Romaine stays crisp for days when washed, spun, and stored in this thing in my refrigerator.

I use it to wash and spin-dry cilantro, too.
