Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Salad Spinner

Customer Review: Not for use in enriching Yellow Cake
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this centrifuge to use in enriching Yellow Cake (see DH Classic Yellow Cake 12ct) in my WMD program. But despite its great reviews here on Amazon, the OXO Salad Spinner is terrible. The mesh grating isn't fine enough to properly sift and concentrate plutonium out of the DH Classic Yellow Cake 12ct.

Plus, it broke! I can't believe it. All my other OXO lab equipment is top-notch with easy-grip handles. I love them! I feel so betrayed by OXO.

Still, at least I got a free vacation to Cuba out of it. Homeland Security says I'll get a free trip from "Gitmo". Is that the new resort I heard about? So excited!

Customer Review: More than just a little salad spinner, easy to use and clean
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an amazingly convenient little unit. It make quick work of salad for one or two, cleans easily, and takes up little cabinet space. Also makes cleaning fresh herbs a snap! This will rinse sand, dirt, critters and debris from a handful of mint, lemon balm, or basil making their use!) Imagine mint tea or juleps without grit, lemon balm tea without mystery additives, and basil cleaned and dried enough for fresh tomatoes and olive oil.

Fill the bowl and soak tired greens in cold water. Use the strainer to drain the water then spin the greens for a much improved crispy salad. You can even wash and soak and drain dried beans in this, leaving dirt behind.

I keep finding more uses for this small version, but its larger cousin gets almost as much use in as many different ways.

Customer Review: OXO Salad Spinner
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this Spinner a few years ago and use it maybe once every few weeks. It works great for its intendend purpose - salads and veggies, but I also like to use it for pasta. If you're going to make a pasta salad and want to strain out all the water before you mix it all up with your ingredients, this works great. Like many others, I am one who likes to read the 1-star reviews 1st before deciding to purchase anything and after reading them for this, all I have to say is - I haven't tried any other salad spinners to compare this to, but maybe it is possible that the 1-star reviewers just got 'lemons' or could be that maybe this isn't good for every-single-day use? Who knows, all I know is I am giving this 5-stars because I give mine what I would think is 'normal' use and it works wonderfully!

Customer Review: Can't get my greens dry!
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this spinner because of the great reviews but I'm having a big problem in that I can't seem to get my lettuce dry. No matter how many times I've spun it there still seems to be a fair amount of visible water. Based on the reviews I expected to get "crisp, dry" lettuce. My lettuce is crisp but not dry and I'm afraid that if I put it into the fridge as is it will get bad fast.

So what am I doing wrong? I've tried adding a couple (or more) paper towels - that didn't help. I've tried putting less lettuce, that didnt help either. btw I'm talking about a large salad for one person. I've also tried draining it on my drainer.

If anyone knows what I should or shouldnt be doing please let me know; else I'm going to have to return it :-(

Customer Review: No more wilty greens!
Summary: 5 Stars

Simply put, this is a terrific salad spinner. It's incredibly easy to use - toss in your greens or your herbs, rinse them and start spinning. It only takes 2-3 pumps of the handle to get it going, and then the spinner does the rest of the work. Salads come out clean and crunchy.
I've had mine for two years now and have never had a problem. As usual, OXO makes great products that seem to hold up to use. Even after so many uses, the "pump" handle is going strong.
I also love that I can store my salads right in the spinner bowl and the greens will stay crisp and fresh for several days at least. If you do use it to store your salads though, be warned it takes up a good deal of space, but apart from that it's the perfect spinner. LOVE it!
