Customer Review: Better than the Pampered Chef version

I got these as a Christmas gift and I had previously owned the Pampered chef Smooth Edge can opener. I wanted a replacement that would take the lids off smoothly, but then also leave that smooth rim so you could also reuse the can top as a lid to reseal the can. This OXO and the P.C. brand do the exact same thing in the exact same way, EXCEPT the OXO brand feels so much better in your hand while using them. The next test will be to see if it LASTS longer. The life expectancy for the Pampered Chef can opener is 3 years approximately- I made mine last 5, but it was hit or miss at opening cans by that point. I haven't had this OXO one long enough to see if it will stand the test of time. As far as storage goes, it is slightly bulkier than the Pampered Chef opener, but I'll happily make room.Customer Review: Great Can Opener!

I purchased this can opener because my fiancee was always complaining that he couldn't find - and didn't like - our cheap Swing-A-Way can opener.
This can opener is great because it is big and black, so it is easy to find, and it opens the can and leaves no rough edges. And despite the different way that the blades are laid out, it is surprisingly easy to use. The first time I used it, I wasn't sure if it had worked because it was so simple. I have noticed that it leaves a little ridged band around the inside of the top edge of the can, so you can see that it is indeed working. My fiancee used it without me even showing him how, and not only did he not complain about it being different, he said that he really liked it.
I would definitely recommend this can opener.

I've only had this opener for about a month, but it's easily the best I've ever owned. I disagree completely with the reviewer that says it has a hard time opening small cans. I open almost exclusively very small cans of tomato paste with this thing without any problems. It's just so easy to use and nice on the grip I actually look forward to opening cans now.
If it's true that this opener doesn't last more than a year like others are saying then I'm ok with that as long as Oxo sends me a new one when it dies. But I'm a single household so I find that my kitchen products last alot longer than most people's anyway just because most people cook for more than just themselves. But this opener is so great in my opinion its worth the trouble of replacing.

Tired of lousy can openers, I ordered three different ones from Amazon. Tried this one first and never looked at the other two. It takes a time or two to get used to the way it works, but work it does and quite well. I like the smooth edges. They're so clean that I emptied, then re-assembled some cans and put them back in the pantry as a joke. My wife never caught it even with the light weight (thinking we had been cheated by the manufacturer). Seriously, it works on bent cans, small tomato paste cans and large fruit cans. If there is a downside, it's the slightly increased grip strength this can opener needs, but well within normal adult ability. Apart from the smooth edges, the can opener itself stays clean since nothing ever touches the contents of the can.Customer Review: A year of use and we still love it!

We've had this can opener for a year now and still marvel at how well (and easily!) it works. First, let me say that we actually bought one of the 'early' smooth edge can openers (yes, the ones you saw on the info-mercials) and it was an absolute nightmare (took an engineering degree to figure out how to make the thing work!); this is nothing like that! It's so simple to use, doesn't take a lot of time to figure out or line up with the can rim, latches on easily with the first try, and turns so easily and comfortably. And, the smooth edge feature works just as promised - no sharp edges anywhere at all (also, doesn't shove the can lid and/or opener down into the can making a mess and introducing the risk of contamination). Couldn't be happier with this purchase!
