I haven't had this can opener not even a year. Actually, maybe six months and it's already not opening right. Even going over the can 2 or 3 times, I have to use a pair of pliers to get the top off. I had a Good Chef safety can opener and loved it. I had that one for years before it wore out. This one, it's acting like I had it as long as my old one. I miss the Good Chef one and wish I could find it. I do NOT recommend this opener. Oh, and I don't use it all the freaking time either. Maybe two or three times a week and it's acting like this? I wasn't exactly thrilled when my mother bought me this can opener one year (about 4 years ago!) but if only I knew... this is the easiest can opener to use, it's ergonomic, and it works beautifully on almost every can in the pantry. (My husband eats a lot of tuna and says it won't work on those cans...) I like that it makes a smooth and blunt lid that you won't slice your hand on, and I also love the gripper mechanism that pulls the lid off for you. Great design, great bargain with teh 4 for 3 promotion, I've taken to giving these as gifts myself.Customer Review: Little metal slivers

True this can opener is easy to turn but I have found that it often doesn't work on the first time around the can. It also leaves little metal slivers (that I have had to pull out of my fingers)if you try to take the top of the can off with your hands. I may just have a defective version but I contacted customer service and never heard back. My sister hates hers for the same reason. Also when I drain tuna or something I like to do that by using the lid and pushing in to get the juices out and you can't do that with the way this one opens cans.Customer Review: Owned one for many, many years and love it!!!!

I just purchased another one for our daughter as her can opener (not one like this one) broke. She absolutely always loves ours ... everytime she uses it she makes the comment on how wonderful it is. It is actually the first can opener I can use easily ... as I have a muscle disease that makes things difficult at times. I have absolutely LOVED this from the start!!!! When I first used it ... my first thought was ... "what took them so long to invent it!" ... It works as well now as it did when we first go it, and believe me it gets it use!

When we received this opener, we loved it. It worked great, and was easy on the hands. We were sick of the "rechargeable" batteries in the battery-operated openers lasting only so long, which is why we changed to this human-powered model. We also liked the no-sharp-edges result. It lasted exactly one year, then it began skipping as it wound around the can until it was no longer usable. The warranty isn't as great as it sounds since because of the cost to ship this item back to Oxo; we'll put the money towards a new (and different) opener.
