My wife bought this spoon to supplement our collection of wooden spoons because some of the older ones warped or chipped. Not sure how long we had this spoon, but not nearly as long as our Oneida Kitchenware Bamboo Basting Spoon which we've had for several years and certainly not as long as some of the older generic wooden spoons with the thin, round handles. Oneida must have changed the design because ours doesn't have a hole in the handle and the wood looks more like their Oneida Kitchenware Bamboo Pointed Spoon.
At any rate, this OXO spoon has been split for a few months. I don't know whether we hand washed it or put it in the dishwasher, but the older round-handled generic spoons have been through the dishwasher for years. I read a review on Amazon of another OXO product that had failed and the person contacted OXO and they replaced the item at no charge. Figuring that I had nothing to lose, I e-mailed OXO using the form on their website. They contacted me the same day indicating that they would be sending me a new spoon. The new spoon arrived today.
I would urge anyone who has had their OXO wooden spoon slit or crack to contact OXO for replacement.
