Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Good Grips Silicone Pastry BrushCustomer Review: Great brush Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using mine mostly for oils. It picks up a decent amount for oiling a pan, mould or wok. It is non absorbent, inside the bristles are strips with holes which hold liquid for the bristles to distribute. That takes a little getting used to as it is quite different from a bristle brush--it picks up more and distributes faster. Its great for making pastries with oils like almond, sesame, walnut etc. It also does very well with glazes, but I would not try it with any thick material; but that's what a spatula is for any how.
Cleanup is easy and you don't have to use the dish washer but it is fine in the dishwasher; unlike the bristle brushes which degrade.
One feature that no one else has mentioned is that the bristles angle to one side so you can lay the brush down without getting oil or whatever on the counter or plate.
Customer Review: Oxo was there any doubt Summary: 5 Stars
Finally got rid of the bristly type pastry brush and thank goodness there are silicone ones now. The brush type are plain gross and take forever to dry throughly let alone putting in the dishwasher to clean. YUCK. Having looked a numerous brushes on Amazon and not wanting to spend a fortune on an utensil that is used only once in a while, this was priced right. Best part of all is the little flap thingy between the silicone bristles, it has little holes in it. If you look at others here they do not have such an implement. It makes a big differnce in the amount of liquid you are trying to pick up and baste or coat with. The flap carries more the liquid so your not having to go back again and again. Lastly this one cleans great in the dishwasher unlike the bristle type that catch the food particles. Great product and really great price.
Customer Review: A must for the kitchen Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this brush almost two weeks ago and I liked it so much that I decided to write my first review ever.
If you've ever used a natural bristle pastry brush, you know this is an item you will have to replace again and again because the bristles will start to clump up over time and retain odors. Not to mention the shedding.
This brush is amazing! For its trial run, I used it to spread olive oil over a chicken I was roasting. This brush picked up all the oil and coated the chicken nicely. Clean-up was also enjoyable as no soaking in soapy water required. This brush cleans up in a jiff.
I'll still keep a regular pastry brush for delicate jobs such as brushing cake molds with chocolate but this new brush will be used for the messier jobs.
Customer Review: Great brush Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best silicone brush I have ever used.
It has a curved handle so you can brush things easily without getting burn by hot steam or flame. The specially designed brush head can holds fluid well, and brush smoothly. My only complain is that the head is not replaceable. That means if you accidentally ruin you brush(which I doubt, but you know...anything could happen), you have to buy a complete new one, not just switch the head.
If you have ever tried other silicone brushs, yet having bad feeing about them, don't give up the thought that silicone brush might be just better than traditional bristle brush. Try this Oxo silicone brush, and you will finally know the art of brushing!
Customer Review: Standard Pastry Brush Summary: 4 Stars
When I first received these brushes; I bought 4 for numerous uses. I wasn't impressed by what I saw. Silicon bristles were a bit bent and strip inserted in middle of brush appeared flimsy. I was mistaken - brush is easy to hold (older hands), the silicon bristles worked very well when I basted a chicken with butter before roasting it. The insert did exactly what they said it would; it held on to a lot of melted butter while I was using brush - making it easier not to have to keep dipping regular brush into liquid multiple times. Clean up was very quick and easy compared to regular brushes - came out much cleaner with no residual melted butter left on it. Good brush for the money.
