Customer Review: Good for the Price

Bought this at Bed, Bath, & Beyond. For the price, it's fine. It grates hard cheeses, but I can see how some reviewers felt it may (or did) break. The whole product is made of plastic, so gripping it firmly enough to shred hard cheese can take its toll.
My complaint: the area where you grip is too short. I don't know if it's my hands, but gripping the thing requires some contortion on my part. I basically have to hold the bottom of the barrel as I try to squeeze the top down, all while using my other hand to rotate the handle. I have only tried it with a hunk of parmesan reggiano, and it takes a bit for the shredder to get with the program before the rotations are easy to do.
(By the way, I would say this shreds cheese, not grates it.)
Another issue would be the sealer - when you're pressing down while shredding, the sealer sometimes wouldn't line up. So I would have to stop, reposition the sealer to go inside, and then continue.
I believe the only thing really going for this product is the storage capability. I like that you can snap on the cap and stick some shredded cheese in the fridge for later.
Regardless of that fact, I would've bought the Zyliss model, but didn't see it, so Oxo will have to do for now. I can tell you though, that once you get the grater going, it's easier to use than a usual manual.

An additional cap on the barrel compartment ensures a complete seal so your cheese will not dry out. This easy to use Rotary Grater has a soft, comfortable rotating knob and a soft, non-slip handle and is perfect for grating cheese, chocolate, nuts and more.Cheese, nuts, and chocolate can be grated ahead of time with this rotary grater, and stored conveniently right inside the silicone-sealed chamber until ready to use. Or, cut the exact size chunk you want to grate, insert it, seal it, and just before serving you can churn out a fresh sprinkle of parmesan on a casserole or flourish that whipped cream topping with a dusting of dark chocolate shavings. To use, squeeze the soft-grip handles with one hand, which causes the silicone-edged feeder to push the food against the sharp stainless-steel grating cylinder, and turn the soft rotating knob with the other hand. A plastic cap on the barrel keeps grated pieces contained, or removes to let the food grate directly into a bowl, on a pie, etc. The stainless-steel grating cylinder measures 3 by 1-1/2 inches, while overall the grater measures 6 by 5 by 3-1/4 inches.
