Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Good Grips LiquiSeal Travel Mug, Stainless Steel

Customer Review: Took it back Twice
Summary: 2 Stars

It does not leak...period, not even out of the vent hole like others do. I can tip it upside down...no leaks. It keeps beverages hot...boiling drinks like coffee were warm after 2-1/2 hours, which is on par with other vacuum insulated mugs, nothing special here.

My only gripe for four stars is that it is about impossible to thoroughly clean. I'm a cleanoholic and it's irritating I can't get this clean! You can't wash it in the dishwasher either. Can't bleach it or use harsh cleaners so it will always have a "coffee" smell.

NOW for the 2 stars.....

The "click to seal" button has been horrible. It was fine for 3 weeks then it stopped clicking closed on the first push. Sometimes it would, but most of the time it didn't without pushing it more than once. I returned it and got another one, but now that one is doing the same thing after one day of use. Plus, there's no nonskid rubber base, which is nothing major, but would be a nice plus for a $20 mug.

My reccomendation is to get the Contigo mugs. I had one and it worked fantastic for the same price, plus it held 16 ounces. I am returning this one and getting the Contigo.

Customer Review: Great product, has held up very well
Summary: 4 Stars

I've owned a couple of these for more than a year now, and can say they are as good as I thought when I first bought them. No visible wear at all, they seem to be built to last.

I also bought a few and gave them to family members as christmas gifts. Everyone still talks about them.

One comment: to clean properly, you need to wash out the interior of course, but then add some dishwashing liquid soap in there and hot water. Put the cap on, (and close top button so it sealed) then swirl and shake around as hard you can for a while, then turn upside down, click the button on top to open it up, and shake and let the soapy water run through the top part.

This is the only way I think you can really clean it so you don't get buildup. Others have complained they theirs are nasty after usage, but you really HAVE to do this as described if you want to really clean the tumblers.

4 stars for quality construction and materials, not to mention spectacular ability to maintain heat for LONG periods of time.

-1 star because it's not so easy to clean and you can't use dishwasher.

Highly recommended.

Customer Review: My favorite travel mug!
Summary: 5 Stars

This OXO mug is by far the best travel coffee mug out there. It's design keeps your coffee hotter longer than imaginable and it's wonderfully spill-proof!

On busy mornings I might "forget" about my coffee for a bit at work if I get busy. But hours and hours later it is still piping hot like I just made it. I've never tested the "7 hour" claim in the description, but I can attest that it definitely keeps your beverage hot for at least 4 or 5 hours. Quite impressive.

Even BETTER is the complete spill-proof design of this mug. Other mugs out there use the term spill-proof when they should really be called spill-retardant, meaning that: anything with a top on it will "help stop" your drink from immediately spilling, but liquid will still spill out. The OXO mug definitely deserves the title of "spill-proof."

Another mug (a cheapie) spilled all over my car console. What-a-mess! And a Nissan mug I have spilled all over my paperwork, just tonight. Hence, why I am looking to get an extra OXO.

(Hey OXO, if you're out there reading this... I'll totally do ads for you. This is one product I stand by totally. :) Drop me a line!)

Customer Review: ***HOW TO CLEAN THIS MUG!***
Summary: 5 Stars

I just figured out how to clean the lid!!! I love this mug becasue it will keep my coffee hot well into the afternoon and doest spill a drop. (I have the stainless mug) I have never been able to clean the top and know it is full of disgusting junk. Instead of buying a new one I decided to just force this one apart with pliers and a screw driver so I will know how to clean the next one. Luckily i didnt break anything and it is as good as new know. Here is how:

Step 1: With a flathead screw driver or knife pry off the top of the rubber button that says "OXO". it is about 1/8" thick.

Step 2: With a small screw driver unscrew the philips screw that is now exposed from step #1.

Step 3: Pull on the round part under the lid that has the large seal and it will seperate from the top of the botton.

Step 4: Remove all parts fron the top of the lid and pay close attention so you can put it back together.

Step 5: Try not to throw up when you see the 1/4" thick layer of mildew, bacteria, and mold, you were just drinking out of!!!

Step 6: Clean all parts and reassemble the Mug. Good as new!

Customer Review: The lid "design flaw" is not that big of a deal.
Summary: 4 Stars

This mug is great. It keeps things hot for a long time and it does not spill! I have put it in my purse on my way to work and not spilled a drop.

True, the lid is one piece and liquid can (over time...in my experience YEARS) get caught inside the lid. However, if any liquid does get trapped in there, it does not come in contact with what you are drinking. You will know this because nothing "leaks" from the lid when the cup is empty.

I have owned several of these, and used them for years until I literally wore out the gasket. One reviewer said that the "bacterial breeding ground" of the lid can make you sick. I just don't see it.

They have a new design for the lid that allows you to drink from any direction and the lid comes apart for easier cleaning. The mug also has a handle. So, if you are freaked out by the "bacterial breeding ground" in the lid, get that one instead. But this one is just fine.

P.S. Being exposed to bacteria is actually a *good* thing. It keeps our immune system working so that we are better able to fend off bacteria that will truly make us sick.
