Before I purchased this, I used a wooden skewer to check my cakes. It worked, but it left a big hole in the baked goods. This reusable tool makes a hole that you cannot even see. It is super delicate, so you have to make sure you do not bend the fine wire.
I love it, and use it often. It is even dishwasher safe!

I wish I had 10 of these things. I never bake without it. My cat loves it too, and always steals it from me...beware if you have a playful cat. I was always looking for a toothpick long enough for my cakes. I could buy martini toothpicks but then I would have to store them and they are a one use item (not green at all). This is just such an improvement over using a toothpick especially since it is a lot longer to start with. It also goes in the dishwasher. I got this cake tester on sale and am so glad I picked it up to round out my $25 free ship order.
It hangs by my stove . It makes only a very tiny hole in the cake.
Very good cake tester, easy to use and clean. Better than using wooden kabob skewers.
