Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Good Grips Brushed Stainless Steel Napkin Pinch

Customer Review: Attractive, usable napkin holder; sticker incites rage
Summary: 4 Stars

My wife and I have a bunch of OXO gadgets in our kitchen, including salt and pepper mills, oven mitts, vegetable peelers, and even a meat thermometer. That's why we weren't hesitant to purchase this napkin holder to replace our previous napkin holder: a stack of napkins in our pantry. This product delivers on what it claims to do, but the adhesive used to affix a rather worthless label to the side of this napkin holder will have you reaching for your OXO chef's knife or OXO ice pick in no time.

In between bouts of attacking the crap out of this thing with myriad solvents and chemicals, we would admit defeat at the hands of a formidable opponent and vow to return the product to get our money back. Just short of requesting a refund, we tried some rubbing alcohol to remove the last of the yellowed adhesive residue. I think the napkin holder also briefly held some napkins during this time. Sure enough, the rubbing alcohol did the trick, and I never got to find out how well a flame thrower would have worked.

All I can say is, I hope they do away with the label by the time you read this review. This napkin holder looks great next to other stainless steel and black kitchen gadgets, and it works quite well at allowing napkin extraction. It's getting docked one star for the label, but other than that, I can recommend it if you're in the market for a napkin holder... or if you're looking for something to take your frustration out on.

Customer Review: That big label is a killer to remove
Summary: 3 Stars

I read the reviews, noticed the comments about the label but did I listen? Noooo. That would have been the smart thing to do. I paid the "stupid tax" for not learning from others.

The package arrived, and yes, there was a big honking label on one side. I ever-so-gently attempted to remove the sticker, but no matter what corner I attempted, the paper tore and a gluey, papery mess was left behind. I tried several ways to remove it before I began getting stern (plastic scrubber, hot soapy water, vinegar, even overnight freezing). I found success by lightly using a copper scrubber with hot soapy water. That still left a visible stain/residue on the surface. I then used CeramaBryte Stainless Steel cleaner and, voila! The stain is almost completely gone. If you look carefully, you can barely discern a faint outline of where the glue used to be. I know its there but I'm sure no one else will see it unless I point it out. I'll keep that little secret, thank you!

Ironically, after all the drama of removing that large label on the side, the small black barcode label on the bottom just peeled right off.

I like the product now but I wouldn't do it again. I have reported the issue to Oxo. I hope they take some action on this.

Customer Review: Room Temperature Was Enough For EZ Label Removal
Summary: 4 Stars

I read so many bad reviews about the label (thanks for the warning!) that I wondered if I'd have the same problem but it was no big deal. Once the napkin holder arrived, I brought it in from the porch and tried to peel up a little corner. It was leaving the adhesive on the holder so I stopped. I then realized the holder was still quite cold from being outside and decided to see what happened later when it got to the temperature inside the house. Left it on the kitchen table and went back to it a few hours later and tried again. It turns out that was enough to get the label off with no problem. It peeled up easily (although I did it a little slowly) and left no adhesive on the holder. I've just had the holder a couple of days but so far it's working great. So cool to be able to pull 1 napkin at a time with just 1 hand (with 2 young kids, that's often the most I have available during meals :)! I'd give the holder 5 stars but I'm just not too crazy about the look of it. Rather utilitarian and subject to showing fingerprints but my priority was finding the "pinch" feature on a product with pretty good reviews so this was a really good find. And since one only needs to touch the napkin itself to get it out, hopefully there won't be any fingerprints on the holder!

Customer Review: Doesn't work for us
Summary: 1 Stars

Okay, I really wanted to like this. I was thrilled when I easily peeled the dreaded sticker (that has given so many others fits) from the side...no sticky mark or residue at all! My problem came when I tried to remove the napkins one at a time which seems to be the redeeming quality of this product. To my extreme disappointment, they didn't come out one at a time. "What am I doing wrong?", I found myself saying. Then I realized, I shouldn't have to figure out how to "correctly" remove a napkin from a holder. After much trial and error, a super quick flick will produce the best results...but not consistently. If it is too full, or too low on napkins, the quick flick method does not work. Last night my husband tried the best method (quick flick of the wrist) to remove a napkin from this holder and actually said, "I can't believe how much I hate this thing." That was my cue to write this review. I really wanted to like this product, but it just wasn't in the cards for us.

Customer Review: I Think I Have a Solution
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading the reviewer comments on how great this napkin holder is, I decided to purchase one from Amazon, ignoring the fact that several of you mentioned how hard it was to get the label off. I just thought you guys had arthritis or something.
Got my napkin holder today and I have to admit--it's true, it's true, the label is unbelievable on this thing. However, not to be outdone, I grabbed an oven cleaner that is safe on stainless steel and an abrasive sponge. After leaving the oven cleaner on the napkin for three to five minutes, and using a little elbow grease with the abrasive sponge, the removal of the label was a done deal and the napkin holder is just beautiful!!!!

Hopes this helps!!!

God Bless!
