Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Good Grips Box Grater

Customer Review: Excellent, well designed grater.
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this based on a review by Cooks Magazine. It is everything I need in a grater. First off, it grates very well. Beyond that it has some excellent design features. The handle is very comfortable to grip and the bottom ring keeps it secure on the counter top. It is very easy to clean as your hand with a sponge fits easily inside. The cup has a lid and is a handy addition for grating and then storing. The best thing is that the cup with its lid fits up inside the grater for storage. A real plus for people with limited space like me. This is my 3rd or 4th grater purchase and don't think I will need another one for a very long time.

Customer Review: grater
Summary: 3 Stars

Oxo Good Grips Box Grater I am an OXO fan but this is one thing they can keep. Do yourself a favor and save your $15.00 towards a Cuisinart. I would try to grate cheese and it would fall all over my counters; it was just plain messy! Sure it is a cute idea and maybe useable if you dont need a huge amount of cheese. But during the holidays when I was cooking large meals this item had me so fustrated I almost broke it to see if it would work better!

Signed enraged cook who retired the grater and bought a Cuisinart!!!!!

Customer Review: Was hoping for more, just ok...
Summary: 3 Stars

I like OXO products generally, from ok to nice to look at, usually have a solid feel and very nice ergonimically. This grater makes no improvements in ergonomics outside of the plastic handle vs. some uncomfortable metal handles. The catch-cup is nice. It cuts just ok, not amazing as some reviews stated. My big complaint is that while it looks a bit nicer than my old chefmate (very cheap grater), it cuts the same and it actually feels flimsier (The steel body has some bend while grating) even my chefmate didn't do that. Wish I had chosen a different upgrade, the search continues for a better grater, $15 down the road...

Customer Review: sharp but the handle is weak
Summary: 3 Stars

good sharp grater, better than the others i have at home. too bad that the plastic handle got disconnected on one side pretty fast. it's still usable, but not so comfortable any more.

PS: I've owned it for a while now. It's not any more as sharp as it used to be. I recently purchased a Microplane box grater. It is definitely of superior quality (and more pricey), though the shapes of the grates are somewhat non-standard. If you are looking for a new grater, check that one too, there are plenty informative reviews (including mine), and may be you will find that it has the features you are looking for.

Customer Review: Easy to use and clean
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used this for grating cheese so far. It is a breeze to grate soft and hard cheeses alike. And the clean up, by hand no less, has been super easy. My previous two box graters were a real pain to get completely clean of food. So far this takes a good scrub once on the inside and out and the food comes away, then rinse. I am sure it would do well with vegetables too; I don't generally use shredded veggies.

It is slightly less steady when using the measuring cup but not enough that I would reduce my rating. I also love that the cup stores inside the grater so it fits in my cabinet vertically.
