Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Good Grips 3-Piece Stainless-Steel Mixing Bowl Set

Customer Review: So nice you'll use them for more than mixing bowls
Summary: 5 Stars

These bowls are great not just for mixing, but as serving bowls too. On a game night I tossed some snacks in the bowls and the rubberized bottoms kept them from sliding all around as well as keeping them from intentionally being slid across the table. The larger bowls would probably work great to keep a salad chilled a bit longer and the bowls are simplistically attractive to use at the dinner table - haven't used them this way yet, but since getting them I've thought of several ways other than baking that these can be effectively used. Prior to these I had heavy Pyrex mixing bowls and after one shattered into what seemed to be about a million pieces I decided that I wanted stainless steel and am pleased with my purchase. They are much lighter in weight than I had anticipated, yet they are clearly well built and solid. I think this would be a wonderful wedding shower gift or for someone who bakes a great deal - even if he/she already had a set of mixing bowls I think these would be a welcomed addition.

Customer Review: Perfect Bowls
Summary: 5 Stars

These bowls replaced a mismatched Pyrex set that was way too heavy and a thinner stainless set that didn't have a 5-quart size. I can now get rid of both of those sets, because this is all I need! These are sturdy, thick, heavyweight bowls that have rubber nonskid bottoms and white metal sides. Stainless is perfect because it's easy to clean, lighter weight than glass, and doesn't retain odors or scratch like plastic. There are three practical sizes in the set, 1.5, 3, and 5 quarts. They have nice wide rims to make sure that everything stays in the bowl while you are mixing. I got these as opposed to the other Oxo stainless set because I didn't want the grippy stuff all over the outsides. It's fine for the bottom, but stuff sticks to it, like crumbs and towel lint. The insides have more of a brushed stainless finish than a polished finish, which makes them easy to keep free of water spots and fingerprints. This is the only set you'll need.

Customer Review: replaced my shattered pyrex
Summary: 5 Stars

After having a pyrex baking dish shatter all over my kitchen while taking it out of the cupboard, I decided it was time to replace my pyrex with something more ... sturdy :)

enter these metal mixing bowls (plastic outside, nice stainless steel inside, no-skid bottom). Perfect! These are so much better than pyrex or plastic. They will keep hot things hotter for longers, and cold things colder for longer. You can use them in the fridge, and they have been good in the dishwasher. No microwave, of course, but I kept a couple of microwave-safe pyrex and plastic bowls for that job.

I use these a lot - as a big family-style salad bowl, for letting bread rise (pour some hot water in first to warm up the stainless steel and the bread will rise faster), storing food in the fridge - everything. They are surprisingly light, too, which is another advantage over pyrex.

Customer Review: No-Slip, Good Size, Overall Good Bowls
Summary: 4 Stars

The no-slip bottom is a definite plus for this set. The three sizes are different enough that each definitely has its own tasks, but at the same time they aren't oversized. They do take up more space that I would like, it seems that if the sides weren't so high, they could be a bit more squat and nest inside each other deeper. Just a nitpick complaint, people with larger kitchen cabinet space may not even notice.

My only complaint is that ours seem to have stained already, despite immediate washing. I've only noticed it on the largest bowl, but am hoping it will not happen on the others. It doesn't feel as if there's any residue on the bowls, almost like the metal soaked up the stain. I wish I saw exactly what my girlfriend had mixed in them, but I'll keep using them until it gets worse.

Customer Review: heavy and grippy
Summary: 4 Stars

Another solid OXO product, carrying another heavy price-tag.

They're worth the money. Just don't call them bargains.

Pro: The heft and rubber base ensure the bowls stay put on the counter.

Con: The weight makes it somewhat tiresome when cradling the bowl in your arm.

Pro: The plastic surface clings to the flesh on your arm well so it won't slip out while you whisk.

Con: The rubber base and plastic walls means these won't double-duty as a double-boiler.

Bottom line: If you're not looking for a double-boiler, this bowl set is pretty much the cream of the crop.
