They are funnels. I'm not sure what high standards some folks may have for their funnels, but these do their job. The strainer has three little nubbs that it fits under within the large funnel to sort of hold it in place. They stack well for easy storage. They grip nicely. Unless your pouring hot liquids, the finger grips are suffice to hold the funnel stable (even though the grips around the base of the funnels do a pretty decent job at stabilizing). I'm not sure why you would want an extended handle...to me that just seems like it would get in the way and make for more difficult storage. Pros:
1. Cost - good value for money if compared to other specialty funnel sets.
2. Rubber grips on outside of spout - ensures the funnel won't wobble or tip over mid-pour.
Cons:
1. Strainer - useless (I believe) and very hard to remove from bottom of small funnel when you don't want to use it
2. Uneven manufacture quality - bits of the rubber grip on the outside protruded into the funnel cavity and had to be trimmed out with an exact-o knife.
Summary: while I'm happy with the purchase - if I had to do it over again I would just purchase the MIU 5-Piece Plastic Funnel Set, White

Oxo makes great products and these funnels are no exception. They come two to a set with a small strainer that helps filter solids. The funnels have a rubberized "thumb spot" that allows you to hold the funnel with ease. This is handy when dealing with oils. The best feature is the series of rubberized stripes that run down the outside of the funnel to hold it securely in the vessel and prevent it from tipping. As a person who has knocked over funnels before, I really appreciate this feature. If you need a funnel, this is the set you should buy. Clean up is easy, just throw them in the diswasher.Customer Review: Nice Funnels

These are nice funnels. I, like other reviewers, am not a big fan of the strainer, because it does seem to pop out, but I just ignore it and use the funnels for everything. They stay in place really well because of the rubber lines running up and down the funnel, so kitchen tasks are much easier than with a regular funnel. OXO tends to have easy-to-use designs of much better quality than average, and these funnels are no exception.
They are easy to store because the small one fits inside the larger one, and they hang very nicely in my pantry.

This is a good funnel SET, because both funnels are attached, so there is no way to lose any. Also, the strainer come in handy for straining unwanted solids out of liquids. However, these funnels are SO big! Unless you want, or need, to pour a great deal of liquid at once, I'd suggest getting a smaller, stainless-steel funnel set. Or, get this one JUST for the third-piece strainer, (that I've seen no-where else, although I'm positive other strainers must have them). These strainers take up extra room in your kitchen storage, that may not be necessary to use.
