Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Northern Industrial #12 Electric Meat Grinder

Customer Review: sloppy construction, works great
Summary: 4 Stars

At half the price of comparable grinders, we were skeptical. Sure enough, the grinder won't sit flat without serious shimming of one foot and the plastic doors on the storage compartments are cockeyed and barely close.

The grinder, however worked perfectly. You need to keep the blade and the plate in place to stuff sausage but if you do that, it works fine. We have only run about 15 pounds of venison trim and suet through thus far but coarse grind, fine grind, and sausage stuffing all worked as I had hoped.

When first in use, you could smell the motor lubricant but it went away with use and was isolated from the meat.

For the price, we are well satisfied.

Customer Review: Excellent Price for an EXCELLENT Grinder!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this grinder for grinding venison into burger. I was VERY frustrated with my other so called professional grinder that I bought for more than this one cost.

I ADORE this grinder. It grinds as fast as I put the meat in. I'm pretty picky about the quality of meat, and trim off all fat and sinew, but my old grinder would catch up on any minuscule piece - this one is one heck of a workhorse!

I will absolutely recommend this grinder to anyone who wishes to grind meat - just an excellent piece of equipment. I'm grinding about 200lbs total of venison, and it's not a joke that it can do that in an hour.

Excellent, excellent machine!

Customer Review: Works nice! Excellent value for the price

After reading some of the other reviews, I was a little nervous about how well this unit would perform. After receiving it, and grinding my first batch of burger, I must say I'm 100% pleased. The picture led me to believe it was a fairly small unit, but it's actually larger than I expected. I only ground about 5 pounds of chuck, but cleaning the unit took longer than grinding that much meat, and it never slowed down or jammed at all.

quick tips - definitely cut your meat into chunks - 1"x1"x2" worked very well for me. Toss it into the freezer for about an hour before you grind, and only grind burger one time - grinding it twice makes the texture weird.

Customer Review: Not Happy!
Summary: 1 Stars

When I got my, much anticipated, meat grinder I could hardly wait to unpack and get ready to grind meat. Once I started going through the packing list I noticed the "Pusher" was missing. Well mistakes happen, but surprises were not over yet. Once I cleaned everything, cut my meat, and ready to save money I found that something was binding the motor. After reassembling the unit 3 times and each time the breaker kicked out, I tried running the unit without anything connected and got the same results.

Not very good quality control. So now I boxing it up, sending it back, getting my money refunded, and I will now by something made any place other than China.

Customer Review: Northern Tool Meat Grinder
Summary: 4 Stars

Very good piece of equipment. Does an excellent job of grinding meats with a minimum of effort. The machine is relatively quiet considering the job its meant to do. Works best if the meat you intend to grind is slightly frozen. The additional cutter plates is a great extra value. ShortFall: Would be super great if extra cutter blades would be included to match the extra cutter plates. This is because the cutter blades conform to the cutter plates being used over time. In other words, each cutter blade and cutter plate should be a matched set.
