Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Norpro Spaetzle Maker

Customer Review: Works well
Summary: 5 Stars

I was very reluctant to buy a kitchen gadget that is only for one purpose, but I'm glad I did. It works well and is easier than scraping bits of dough into the pot. The notched end is very helpful for keeping the tool in place on the pot.

I've used the recipe on the package, as well as one I found on the Food Network, and both worked well. The dough must be very soft - if you're using a recipe that was designed for a firmer dough that is scraped off a board or cut into pieces, you'll probably need to add a little more milk or water. If you are needing to press the dough through the holes, it's too thick.

The cooked spaetzle is a little smaller than what I had in Germany, but the ease of use is a good trade-off.

Customer Review: Don't make spaetzle without one!
Summary: 5 Stars

This spaetzle maker is a must have if you ever make homemade spaetzle. I can't believe I used to make spaetzle without one. Before I knew that there was a spaetzle maker tool, I used to lay a flat cheese grater over the pot of boiling water while mashing the dough back and forth with a wooden spoon. Dangerous and unneccesary as this tool is priced so reasonably. The plastic handle and hopper don't get hot so your hands stay safe! I pour the hot water from the pot over it in the sink when I'm finished for an easier cleanup. It's magic - the spaetzle come out uniform in size so they cook evenly! The homemade spaetzle is sooo much better than the prepackaged stuff. I highly recommend.

Customer Review: Makes making Spaetzle easy
Summary: 5 Stars

I had never made spaetzle before and everyone told me it was very difficult, well I have to say with this little tool spaetzle making was a breeze. The tool comes with a recipe which was very similiar to those I found in the German cookbooks. All you do is mix the dough place it in the square container over boiling water, slide it back and forth and in minutes you have homemade spaetzle. I of course then sauted some onions and butter mixed the spaetzle in and made a perfect side dish to compliment my Beef Rouladen . All said the spaetzle was excellent. So if you have any concern with making home made spaetzle, I would alleviate them by getting and using this tool.

Customer Review: simplified spaetzle
Summary: 5 Stars

This product makes making spaetzle SOOOO much easier! It has grooves on the end that allow you to rest it across a pot and just push the little basket back and forth, while your spaetzle drops into the pot. If you use the spaetzle recipe on the back of the Norpro box, the dough/batter is soft enough that you can use a mixer to combine ingredients (rather than by hand) and just pour the batter right into the basket resting on the pot. You can work it so that you never have to touch the spaetzle by hand, thanks to the Norpro spaetzle maker.

Also, the norpro comes apart very easily, so cleaning it is a breeze. For 8 bucks, you really can't beat it.

Customer Review: My Mother-in-Law is smiling down at me!
Summary: 5 Stars

Used to watch my Hungarian mother in law make her drop noodles by hand. I thought, There's GOT to be an easier way! Later on, to make my husband happy, I tried my hand at those noodles, but mine were big as biscuits. Why? Had no patience. (It took a slow, caring and meticulous cook to turn these suckers out in the "old" days). But now, I am a pro and the man thinks I am a genius...all due to this spaetzle maker!!! Get it and listen to the compliments coming your way. So easy and the noodles are delish! (Yes, mom, yours were delish too!) Over and out.
