Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Norpro Danish Aebleskiver Pan

Customer Review: Great Aebelskiver Pan!
Summary: 5 Stars

You've got to be patient. You will not be an aebelskiver making pro in one or two episodes. It takes practice. I mean think about it, you've got the bottom of the skiver all golden brown to perfection, the middle filled with apples or apple sauce, and now you need to flip the golden side to the top and the raw side to the bottom.

What chutzpah to think you will do it perfectly right off. Relax, turn the heat down a bit if it's going too fast for you and using a knife and spoon, gently release the cooked bottom and flip it to the top.

It really helps to add about and 1/8 of a teaspoon of oil to each hole before adding the batter. It both seasons the pan and keeps that little golden ball from sticking.

I like this pan, I like that it has seven instead of nine holes. The heft of the pan is terrific, allowing it to heat up evenly and with a little adjusting of the heat source you can maintain an even temperature.

If your pan is not a batter dribbled mess, just wipe it out thoroughly with a paper towel. If you use water on it, heat the stove back up, put it back on to absorb the water so your aebelskiver pan does not rust.

I love mine.

Customer Review: Not correct size and difficult to season
Summary: 1 Stars

I was looking for a simple cast iron aebelskiver pan, and was really looking forward to this one based on the picture. However pictures can be very deceiving. When I opened the package, I found a pan that was literally HALF the size of a normal aebelskiver pan. This is more for like making mini or appetizer sized aebelskivers. This also means it is next to impossible to make a decent stuffed one because they are so small.

Nonetheless, I decided to give it a try. I rinsed the pan with hot water and attempted to season it by heating it (I have used only stainless and cast iron for over 20 years, so I know how to season them). The pan instantly gave off noxious fumes and smoke - clearly there was some chemical coating on the cast iron. I have tried twice now, and was nearly gassed out of my home each time. It is now sitting outside my back door. Unlike other reviewers, mine has not rusted (yet). I am guessing they added some kind of coating to the pan to prevent rust that is causing the noxious fumes.

Customer Review: great pan
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great little pan! My daughter loves eating little pancakes and muffins, all we've made so far. For her the size of the cakes is just right. The extras are great for snacks or freezing for later use. Line up the outstide cups on the burner grate and it works fine. The pan is cast iron sooooo wash it in hot water, rinse in hot water, towel dry then heat it on your stove top on low heat. While it is still warm, smear a good layer of vegetable shortening on it, set it in an aluminum foil pan, and bake it at 250 - 300 for an hour. Turn off the oven and leave the pan inside until it is cool. The pan is now seasoned, yeah! After you use the pan wash it in hot water, rinse in hot water, towel dry and heat it on a burner on low heat. When it is dry I spray it with cooking oil and let it set for another minute then turn off the burner, it is then ready to use next time. Standard operating procedure for all my cast iron.

Customer Review: Easier to use than I thought-good quality product.
Summary: 5 Stars

I followed the simple instructions on the label and seasoned the pan (very easy.) Then tried the aebelskiver recipe which was also on the pan (did add a tablespoon of sugar as it didn't have any at all), and success, they turned out perfectly! Not difficult at all, did not stick...no problems whatsoever. I would recommend this pan to anyone looking for a Danish pancake pan. I read some reviews saying it was small, however, the aebelskivers are the correct size, so I'm quite happy to have the pan be compact and small, rather than bulky, large and heavy.

I first tasted the Danish pancakes from Trader Joe's and loved them, but its only a matter of time until they discontinue them :( Now I can make them at home from scratch! Five stars!

Customer Review: Was too small to fit on my stove even!
Summary: 2 Stars

This pan is Small.
I have a gas range with heavy grates, and this pan was hard to get it to fit even, it kept falling through the grates till I could just get it right!(took some time)

It came with a very good recipe, but to me this was such a pain in the neck to make these, I just took out my big double Calphalon Griddle and made pancakes, which turned out great, and tasted the same as Aebleskivers

When I did make Aebleskivers and put the jam in the middle , it seemed to disapeared and I had a hole where the jam was!! I then used fresh apples, that worked out better, but I still like pancakes, allot easier to make.
