Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Norpro Cast Aluminum Tortilla PressCustomer Review: Don't put up with rubbery tortillas from the store Summary: 5 Stars
If you have ever had a fresh tortilla made of stone-ground corn, you will never, ever eat a packaged tortilla again. You can also use this to make the round wrappers for potstickers (chinese ravioli) and other chinese dough wrappers like bao (stuffed buns), shu mai dumplings and Peking pancakes for Moo Shoo Pork. Also works for chappatis. A handy device.
Customer Review: love it Summary: 5 Stars
I am making dozens of tortilla per day and they are coming out perfect. The trick is to use thin clear plastic like a produce bag, between the maze ball. They are not sticking at all. DO NOT USE wax paper. Placing the ball off center is a must for keeping them the same thickness.... Higlyh recommend for fresh tasting tortillas.
Customer Review: overall, not worth it Summary: 2 Stars
The tortilla thickness comes out too thick and uneven, and the size is very small. What I've ended up doing is just starting with the press, then finishing with a rolling pin. It's not worth the price using this press just as a starter. Now I wish I had forked out the extra money to buy a larger square mesquite press.
Customer Review: Works great for corn, not for flour tortillas. Summary: 3 Stars
Am ambivalent about this product. Corn tortillas mash evenly, but with flour tortillas, the sides of the press flex upward. The flour tortilla requires a rolling pin to get the round, consistently flat tortilla shape. Would have rated it a 2.5 since it is in between good and bad. Am looking for a solid steel press.
Customer Review: tortilla press Summary: 4 Stars
I have used my new tortilla press a few times now. It makes you feel authentic to do it but probably can press a tortilla with just about anything heavy. The handle press is not very strong (feels like I will bend it when pressing hard) but it hasn't bent yet. I still like it and am happy with the purchase.
