Our last Norpro wire cheese slicer lasted 12 years!
The quality and durability of the Norpro line of cheese slicers gives me no reason to consider another brand.
This particular model is heavier than it appears (more so than our last one), which makes slicing firm cheeses a cinch. The handle is well balanced so you need only set the slicer on the cheese and push down gently. Your cheese cuts evenly and easily.
Cleanup is easy, too. We handwash the slicer, using an old toothbrush to clean around the adjustable screws.
In summary, this is a great value for the price and durability. We often buy firm cheeses in 2-pound blocks, which saves us a lot of money over sliced, deli cheese.
NOVEMBER 2009 UPDATE
The cutting wire finally broke, so we switched to the spare wire (included) today. That means this model lasted just one year. We wondered what was different than our past experience and, finally, concluded that our new kitchen helpers -- our sons, ages 5 and 7 -- may have something to do with it. Anyway, I'll post another update when this wire breaks. Hopefully, we'll get another year and more out of the replacement wire.
