Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Norpro 3980 12-Count Nonstick Mini Donut Pan

Customer Review: great little donuts
Summary: 4 Stars

We got interested in making donuts based on a recent Family Circle article and found this pan. We liked the idea of smaller donuts since we have 2 small children 4 and 5. The boys had a great time making and decorating donuts. Don't exactly look the same from both sides, but taste good.
I found out 2 helpful tips for being successful:
1. Follow the instructions about keeping them less than or equal 2/3 full - otherwise you have a muffin with a funny looking bottom.
2. I read in one recipe to put the batter in a bag and cut a 1/4 inch corner out of the bottom to help put them in the pan. I found this VERY helpful - my husband was ready to send back the pan because it looked impossible to get the batter into the donuts w/o making a huge mess. This way we didn't make a mess at all and there was still plenty of batter to make about 1 1/2 pans of donuts from a recipe designed to make 6 large donuts.

Customer Review: Cutest little pans ever!
Summary: 4 Stars

These were a little bit smaller than I had expected, but i guess i should have looked at the dimensions to know exactly how big they would be. They are super cute! I am one of those people who love miniature things and these produce the cutest mini donuts. The reason why i gave this four stars is because it's "non-stick" quality is questionable. I sprayed them pretty well and there was still dough that stuck to the sides. It's not too bad so i didn't really mind, but the fact that they are non-stick should mean that they DON'T stick at all. But they work awesomely and it's a great way to avoid the mess of making real donuts and they cook in only 8 minutes. Oh, and you do have to pipe the dough in to avoid a mess. I just used a regular bread bag and cut a relatively small hole in a corner.

Customer Review: Fun Little Pan
Summary: 5 Stars

This pan is exactly as advertised. It really is NON stick, the mini donuts slide out easily. The recipe provided is tasty, and makes 4 full pans...I recommend buying a second pan to make the baking process go faster (cooking 2 pans at a time). Filling the pan is made MUCH easier by piping in the batter with a pastry bag or similar tool. Our best invention with the mini donuts was a donut birthday cake. We dipped our batch of mini donuts in pastel colored frosting and colored sugar and sprinkles. Next we stacked the mini donuts all around a tiny cake and filled in any empty spots with a piped swirl of frosting. Not only cute, but the birthday guests were able to just pluck off the donuts to eat...really fun!

Customer Review: Great healthy alternative to traditional fried donuts
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought 2 of these to make mini donuts with. It is a great product, very simple to use. Like others, I suggest coating with non-stick spray just in case (it already has a nonstick coating, but you never know) and using a pastry bag or a ziplock bag with the corner snipped off to pipe it into the small donut shapes. You should wipe down the sides if you make a mess during this step.

To remove cooked donuts, I use 2 toothpicks to lift out of the pan (they slide very easily) I have only tried the plain donut recipe that it came with, which I thought had a funny taste (but DH enjoyed them). I think next time I will experiment using my Swedish Almond cake recipe, sprinkled with almonds.

Customer Review: Love this pan!
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading a blog recipe using this pan I *had* to order one as well as two of the regular sized donut pans. (http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2009/01/time-to-make-donuts.html) Not only did the recipe turn out great but it has also been fun to adapt muffin recipes for it. Both size pans are a good medium weight and have nice nonstick coating. Spritz each cavity with nonstick spray and there's no sticking. To make filling easier I use a pastry bag. My oven temp needed adjusting however, it works best for me at 350 instead of 325 and, no, my oven temp. isn't wrong.
