Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Norpro 370 Bread Slicerand Guide with Crumb CatcherCustomer Review: Handy tool Summary: 5 Stars
You might try using an electric knife, which cuts perfect slices effortlessly and has a longer blade. I actually don't own this but am buying it for my dad because I have one very similar to this and I like this one better because it has wood on the bottom, instead of plastic covered metal, like ours, which eventually wore down and exposed the metal which makes the knives pretty dull. This model looks far superior. Ours can make 13 slices and fits a whole loaf perfectly but I'm thinking this one will be more convenient to stow away becuase of the half size. These tools are a must for the consumate bread maker.
Customer Review: Useful tool Summary: 4 Stars
This bread slicer is a bit flimsy, and a little tricky to use, but it's way better than trying to slice bread without a guide. My version says "Our Daily Bread" on the end piece, which is too bad - I would rather have nothing or just "Bread" written on there (like in the current product photo). The other annoying thing is that the end piece comes out too easily - not sure why it needs to come out at all! So I taped mine with packing tape so that it doesn't move. That makes it a little sturdier, too. I looked all over for one of these before I bought this one, and I feel like it was a good purchase overall.
Customer Review: It does the job Summary: 5 Stars
Now that I am home full-time, I made the decision to make stop buying bread and start making it for the family. My biggest problem was getting it sliced evenly. I purchased this Norpro Bread Slicer and it does the job I need it to do. Some talk about it being too big for a standard bread knife, but I have not found this to be true for me. I use the guide to slice 1/2 of the loaf then I transfer that half to one of the GV twist tie bags (100 ct. box purchased inexpensively at Walmart), then I slice the rest. My only conundrum is that it is bulky to store, but I did not see any that wouldn't be.
Customer Review: Not getting as much use as I thought Summary: 2 Stars
This fits full size bread loafs, but it's not so good for French Bread, baguettes, and bagels as it is not sideways adjustible. The wood base seems to be made of a wood that absorbes things. Bread, of course, includes some oil and the wood base pick up that over time (and can't be cleaned without making things worse - e.g., wood soaking up soapy water.) My knife often cut into the wood base, opening a crevice into which germs may gather. It is a great looking product new and it does catch crumbs through the slats in the base. The crumbs are hard to remove as well, even after vigerous banging.
Customer Review: Practical Unit Summary: 5 Stars
We like our Norpro bread slicer a lot. The wooden base was perfect for a bread slicer and the fit of the parts was excellent. I read the reviews that criticized strength of construction, and the strength is fine so long as the unit isn't abused. I liked the reasonable price since I wasnt' really prepared to put a whole lot of money into a bread slicer. We got a 10" bread knife, and we were really happy when it came in the mail and we got to try it out. I would recommend it to anyone who is smart enough to know how to take care of the things they buy and doesn't like to waste money.
