I make bread in a bread machine. The bread slicer helps make even slices. Without it I end up with a lot of oddly shaped slices - too thick on one end and too thin on the other. Bread machines tend to make very tall loaves of bread. The guides are not really tall enough. You have to do some unguided slicing before the knife can be guided. Also you need a very long knife - at least 12 inches and preferably 14 inches. The crumb catcher works very well. The whole unit easy easy to clean and does not need to be cleaned often.Customer Review: No issues here.

I'm left-handed, and usually when I make slices they are a little um...bad-especially when my wife bakes a loaf that has a soft crust. I bought this slicer after my wife complained about me leaving the bread loaf looking like a "trapezoid" after I make bread slices. But not any more after this purchase, I get nice and straight slices now. My wife doesnt like it. She says it make the slices to thick, but thats not true. The thickness is no different from the bread you purchase from the store. I love it. 4 stars.Customer Review: Needs Work to Work

I think Norpro needs to upgrade their packaging. When I open the undamaged box that contained the slicer, I found the wooden frame broken in three places. Nothing else in the order was damaged, and the slicer was not the most fragile item in the box. Since it would be a pain to ship it back, and since I do a little wood working, I decided to keep it and repair it myself.
After the repair I see that I like the concept, but the plastic cutting guides could be made with thicker material. They flex too much.

I was so excited when my bread slicer finally arrived, as I'd been slicing my homemade bread by hand, resulting in irregular slices. I have a great, very long bread knife that I use to slice the bread. Upon the 2nd use of the bread slicer, I missed the slot and the knife hit one of the plastic staves. It broke off immediately. If you accidentally pull the knife back too far and start it off-center, it will push out the plastic stave -, or, as in my case break it off. I am very disappointed in this product.Customer Review: This thing is awesome!

My wife any I had just bought a bread machine and decided to start making our own bread. After baking our first loaf it was very apparent that we needed a bread slicer. It was as if I were a 5 year old trying to color and not being able to stay within the lines. We purchased this bread slicer because it looked like it was of good quality and we liked the crumb catcher.
This is a great slicer. I have sliced anything from sandwich loaves to french bread to bagels. Works great!
