I bought this to replace a plastic compost pail that had cracked and leaked. Before shopping we had decided that we would like a metal one, it would last longer and look better. I found this on Amazon and it looked perfect. I have to admit, when I took it out of the box, I was more impressed with it than I expected. I bought this earlier this year and it was working out great. Then I opened it one day and found maggots inside. I stopped using it for quite awhile because it was pretty gross. I talked to a friend and she said she had the same problem. And she found that it was caused by putting eggshells in there. So just be careful if you put eggshells in and make sure the empty it right away. But other than that, it works great!Customer Review: Glad I bought this

This is a great little product. It allows me to scrape veggie scraps from the cutting board right into this attractive stainless steel container while I'm making dinner, then worry about it later. I empty it about once a week into the composter outside and it doesn't smell at all! Makes composting that much easier, even though it does kind of look like it should have come with a little plush oscar the grouch toy.Customer Review: Hoping it works

Item was shipped promptly and in good condition. It was a Christmas gift for my mother so I cannot readily review how it works. My mother, 88 years old, and still insists on composting carried her garbage out in the cold and heat regularly to bury in the compost pile (can you see her with pitchfork in hand). Just what we needed for the counter top -- durable, good looking, and keeps the odors out. The stainless construction allows for lots ot be packed in which helped during the week of rain. Then, we had some particularly fragrant contents the last few weeks and with the lid on there were no smells or flies around (except the few inevitable little bugs inside that go out when it goes out). Highly recommend.
