Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Nordic Ware Scottish Scone & Cornbread Pan

Customer Review: If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. - J.R.R. Tolkien
Summary: 5 Stars

When my cravings for scones recently went unfulfilled due to some crazy city wide scone shortage conspiracy, I decided to take matters into my own hands and bake my own.

While searching Amazon for a scone cookbook, I stumbled upon this pan. I received it for a Christmas gift and have used it several times since. I love it. The cookbook I use doesn't call for a scone pan but asks you to lay the dough in a circle on a buttered cookie sheet and cut them yourself. Even though this pan is non-stick, while making my first batch I struggled with whether or not I should butter the pan to avoid it sticking. I ended up not buttering the pan and when I realized how sticky the batter was, I was sure I was going to have broken scones. I was wrong.

I can't believe how easy the scones pop out of the pan. They come out so clean the pan looks like it hasn't been used. The pan is heavy duty, it cooks evenly, washes up nicely and I have absolutely no complaints.

I was worried about having to adjust cooking time and temperature as my cookbook recipes didn't call for the pan, but the scones cooked perfectly and needed no adjustments. I couldn't be more pleased with this pan. I look forward to adding the NordicWare 03337 Cast-Aluminum Mini-Scone Pan to my collection. Happy Baking!

Customer Review: Great and versatile pan!
Summary: 5 Stars

This pan is absolutely fantastic! I made scones in it last week for the first time and they came out perfectly - just like from a coffeehouse!

Since it is sectioned, you won't have to roll out the dough and cut it up. When making scones, just section and push in your dough. I was a little skeptical about adding no oil considering the dough was VERY sticky, but no problems! The scones came out golden brown on the outside and soft and perfect on the inside AND they practically slid out of the pan! Using butter in the dough is enough to keep it from not sticking!

I would recommend www.joyofbaking.com for some scone recipes or "Simply Scones". Also, if making scones from scratch, make sure to buy a pastry blender - the use of two knives approach in the "Simply Scones" book is messy and much more difficult.

Though I haven't tried it myself, I'm sure baking cookies and other baked good would work very well in this pan.

As to the difference between the Nordic Ware pan vs. the Lodge pan - I saw BOTH in stores. The Lodge pan was substantially cheaper but about FIVE times heavier (if not more). The Nordic Ware pan is more lightweight and the little handle flaps on the side are enough to allow for easy removal from the oven. The Nordic Ware's handles are space-efficient, whereas the Lodge pan's handle might consume more space. I haven't actually tried the Lodge, but if space and weight are an issue for you, I would recommend the Nordic Ware pan.

Customer Review: i love this pan!
Summary: 5 Stars

i've been in a scone phase although i KNOW this pan would be great for biscuits cornbread even rolls really after its performace with the scones this morning. after i greased the pan with shortening and the scones were done literally i flipped it over a plate and they all went on the plate perfectly done and not ONE of them stuck. no scraping no ruined awful looking half burned scones- after having to deal with a horrible cake pan that ruined a previous batch you just dont know how wonderful that was to witness today ( to be honest i was skeptical but it was a good price) it makes perfect size scones not too big too small. and beyond the shortening it was the easiest pan i've ever had the pleasure to use. dont look any longer you found the pan you need in this one!

Customer Review: Nordic Ware Scone Pan

Due to the large depth of the dough (relative to the surface area), the scones come out somewhat moist, not as good as a flatter, crunchier scones (depending on one's taste, of course). If you make the scone shallower to get the crunchiness, then it will be very small. A larger diameter pan would have been much better. Good quality construction and relatively easy to clean. Sometimes the scones don't come out easily, causing breakage of the product. I use several of these pans commercially for those customers that prefer the moister scone. The biggest drawback for my business is the relatively small diameter.

Customer Review: How can you possibly make a better scone pan?
Summary: 5 Stars

I've bought two of these pans within the last month. I gave the first to my daughter. I don't think it is possible to make a better pan for scones. Heats fast and evenly, scones brown nicely and in just 15 minutes they are perfect. Nonstick surface so scones lift easiy from pan or simply dump from pan. If you are into scones this is the perfect pan. A bit pricy of a bakeware pan but once you use it you will never regret the money spent. Perfect pan for scones.Nordic Ware Scottish Scone & Cornbread Pan
