Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Nordic Ware Naturals Hi-Dome Pie Pan with Lid, 10 Inch

Customer Review: Nordic Ware Aluminum Pans are Heavenly!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a Nordic Ware heavy-gauge aluminum 9" X 13" covered cake pan that I adore, so I decided to get the Nordic Ware Naturals Hi-Dome 10 Inch Pie Pan with Lid, which is also heavy-gauge aluminum. Another great product from Nordic Ware! Besides being slightly bigger in diameter than a "regular" sized pie pan, it also has a lip all around the outside for juice that might seep out during baking. It is also handy for lifting the pie in and out of the oven. I used 9-inch Pillsbury ready-made pie crusts from the refrigerated section of the grocery store. They were a little small for this pan, so I just floured the counter and rolled the crust a little bigger. They fit perfectly with no stretching. Instead of the usual three 1 lb. cans of tart pie cherries I use to make a pie, I used five cans for the 10-inch pan. It was perfect. I increased the other ingredients in the recipe a bit to accomodate the bigger size, and also baked it about 15-20 minutes longer in the oven. Everyone enjoyed the pie, and it baked up really nice. I really like the plastic dome top, because there are small vents in the top, which allows steam to escape from the pie, when covered. Personally, I would have preferred a 9-inch size pan, but this bigger pan is still a delight to use and clean up. I would definitely recommend this product.

Ordered 5 for Thanksgiving as soon as I saw them. Heavy duty pans are a joy to work with, and the lids are sturdy and fit perfectly, kept in place snugly by tabs, but easily removed as needed. The domed lids preserve the integrity of the tallest of pies, and they are sturdy enough to stack pies, at least 3 high, if not more. The large size of the pans even allowed me to use one as a "storage device" for a tall cheescake that I baked in a spring-form pan.

With a downstairs fridge and a need to shuffle pies in, out, up and down for the days after Thanksgiving, this made the logistics of that easy, oh and yes, the pies baked up great in these super pans! When forming the edge of big double crust pies, just allow for the area where the lid meets the pan by leaving a little empty space on the outer edge of the pan.

I wish I had had these years ago.

Customer Review: Every kitchen deserves one (or more) of these
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been a longtime customer of NordicWare products due to their ease of use, durability, and the fact that they're still made with pride in the USA. Most of my prior NordicWare purchases were Bundt pans, but I've recently expanded into baking pies, so I purchased a covered pie pan.

No longer do you have to worry about storing those pesky meringue pies; this high-domed lid eliminates squashed meringues or smashed sky-high toppings. The heavy-duty aluminum pie pan browns and bakes evenly and is a snap to wash. The plastic cover prevents odor absorption from other smelly fridge co-inhabitants, and preserves those perfect peaks on your lemon meringue or the lovely latticework crust on your cherry pie. If you're a frequent pie baker (or pie giver), you owe it to yourself (and your pies) to have one or more of these gems in your kitchen!

Customer Review: Wonderful Large Pie Pan
Summary: 5 Stars

I had two old professional pie tins that had been in my family, and I would use them proudly and happily once or twice a year. Then, one of them somehow "disappeared" at my mother-in-law's house a few Thanksgivings ago. I was annoyed but didn't want to give her the satisfaction of asking about it repeatedly (yes, there are many, many issues.) I started to look around for a new one, and was shocked to immediately find this wonderful professional-sized (& weight) pan at my local variety store. I have to say, especially considering the lid that is provided, it is actually a little better than the one I lost. I think it is also maybe a quarter of an inch deeper too. So now, we have a second home and I figure it's time to get at least one more.

Customer Review: Worth every penny...

OK, I will be to the point. This is a really good pie plate. It is a solid, heavy plate that will not burn your crust. It has a slotted cover so you can pull your pie right from the oven, let it cool just a bit, and then slap the top on it and take it to your friend's house for dinner without steaming the crust soggy. Or to a church pot luck. Or whatever. When you have a good tool, with convenience built in, grab it. You will leave this plate to your kids. It would also make a great shower gift for not a heck of a lot of money.
