Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Nordic Ware Cast Aluminum Mini-Scone PanCustomer Review: Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all. - Harriet van Horne Summary: 5 Stars
I make scones all the time as my love of scones has rubbed off upon my son and husband. I had originally purchased the NordicWare Scottish Scone/Cornbread Pan and while that is a wonderful scone pan, my recent purchase of this one has moved it to 2nd place on my preference list.
I favor the smaller scones made with this pan. With the large pan I felt one scone was almost too much to eat, I still managed of course, but was left with that too full feeling. With these smaller scones, I can have two and not feel like I am going to explode, and I can sample a variety of flavors.
The pan itself is of the highest quality. It's heavy, it's thick and durable and the scones pop right out leaving the pan looking like it was never used. Every time I bake scones I am amazed at how easy they come out of the pan without having to grease or butter it before baking.
I don't own a dishwasher but if I did, this is one pan I wouldn't put in it. In the days when I had a dishwasher (those were the days) I always omitted the most special cooking pans and dishes, preferring to give them a more gentle hand cleaning.
As someone who enjoys her time in the kitchen, cooking and baking, its products like this that thrills me to bits. NordicWare bake ware is a relatively new discovery for me, but if this is an example of the standard of product they put out, it's a name I will continue to look for when purchasing cookware.

Customer Review: PERFECT Summary: 5 Stars
THIS PAN IS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT FOR MAKING SCONES OR CORNBREAD. I HAVE TRIED MANY RECIPES AND THIS IS THE BEST ONE YET! Please feel free to use my recipe:
CINNAMON, PECAN, COCONUT, RAISIN SCONES:
1 3/4 CUPS ALL-PURPOSE FLOUR
1/2 CUP CHOPPED PECANS
3 PACKAGES OF SPLENDA
2 AND 1/4 TEASPOONS BAKING POWDER
1/2 TEASPOON SALT
1 AND 1/2 TEASPOON CINNAMON
1/4 CUP COLD UNSALTED BUTTER
2 EGGS
1/3 CUP MILK WITH 2 TABLESPOONS COCONUT CREAM POWDER OR USE LIQUID COCONUT CREAM 1/3 CUP
1/2 CUP RAISINS
IN A BOWL COMBINE THE FLOUR, SPLENDA, BAKING POWDER, SALT, CINNAMON, AND CUT IN THE BUTTER VERY FINE.
ADD THE NUTS, AND RAISINS, AND COCONUT - MIX WELL.
BEAT THE EGGS WITH A FORK AND MIX WELL INTO THE COCONUT CREAM MIXTURE- ADD TO THE FLOUR MIXTURE. MIX WELL. PREPARE THE SCONE PAN BY SPRAYING IT WITH PAM. PRESS THE DOUGH INTO THE SCONE PAN (PERFECT SIZE FOR THIS RECIPE). BRUSH TOPS WITH BEATEN EGG OR JUST MILK. MIX SOME CINNAMON WITH SPLENDA AND SPRINKLE ON TOP OF EACH SCONE. BAKE AT 450 DEGREE FOR 14 MINUTES OR UNTIL BROWN. COOL ON RACKS. IF DESIRED, YOU CAN MAKE A CONF. SUGAR ICING AND DRIP ON EACH SCONE.
NOTE: MANY RECIPES SAY TO PLACE THE DOUGH ON A FLOURED SURFACE AND MIX WELL. IF YOU OVERMIX, YOUR SCONE WILL BE TOUGH. BY PRESSING THE DOUGH DIRECTLY INTO A PAN MAKES A VERY TENDER SCONE INSIDE AND CRISP ON THE OUTSIDE.
ENJOY!
Customer Review: Perfect for portion control with recipie Summary: 5 Stars
I love scones. This pan makes perfect 2 ounce portion scones. I am on a diabetic friendly, portioned control eating plan & lifesytle and this pan makes perfect portions of my favorite indulgence. I make my scones from a personal recipie using soy flour 2 cups, almond flour 1/4 cup, splenda 1 cup, salt, 1/4 tsp, walnuts 1/4 cup, dried blueberries (or cranberries) 1/2 cup, sunflower kernels 1/4 cup, and ground flax seeds 1/4 cup, 2 eggs, 2 tsp baking powder, 1 amd a half sticks margarine, 1/4 tsp vanilla (or lemon extract), 10 oz. half & half or soy milk. Mix wet & dry ingredients separately, then add the wet into the dry. It will look like an ugly sticky mess (that's normal). Please spray the pan generously with bakers joy spray. I use a melon scoop to scoop dough into scone pan, bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees. I eat just one with coffee for breakfast and it gives me lots of energy all the way until lunch time. My blood sugar levels are not significantly affected *[adds roughly 15 points to sugar level] because the soy flour besides being very healty and full of protein, is also very low on the glycemic index. Using the soy flour also increases the shelf-life of these scones so, when refrigerated will keep for two weeks and will stay moist and delicious. Enjoy!
Customer Review: A Mile High Delight! Summary: 5 Stars
I live at high altitude, and although I have wonderful high altitude recipes to use to make scones, I do also love my other recipes from sea level that make tea time DELICIOUS. Until now, that meant courting disaster. Now with this heavy, well made, scone pan, it fits my high altitude needs perfectly. Previously the scone dough would spread out way too far and be an unattractive (yet tasty)shallow blobish triangle. This pan helps to corral the dough in meticulous tiny triangles. Now I have perfect triangles to share at afternoon tea.
I also enjoy the smaller size, because them I can have a couple of varieties out at tea time to share. With smaller scones, I can offer all of the traditional sandwiches and such, and nobody will be over-stuffed.
I still make the traditional shaped ones, and the circle cut out ones for dough that doesn't spread too much, somehow I feel that then it doesn't have a "triangular muffin" look, but this pan has saved me stress. I also own the scottish scone pan. I haven't used it yet, but bigger scones are awesome too.
Give this pan a try. I think you'll love it.
Customer Review: greatest thing since sliced bread Summary: 5 Stars
Cooking gadgets usually get boring after the novelty wears off, but not this one. I always loved scones, except the ones I baked myself because they usually came out lumpy looking and of many sizes. This pan has turned me into an almost daily scone baker, just for the fun of seeing how great they look. I give them away because they multiply in my freezer and the recipients are amazed at how evenly shaped they are. They also produce scones of a more modest size, so the recipient does not feel guilty at eating more than one.
I have given a pan to my granddaughter on the other side of the country and we have almost daily conversations about our shared love. She even photographed her first batch and sent it so I could see how lovely they turned out.
For the practical part, the pan washes easily with warm, soapy water and doesn't take up much space.
A definite A+.
It is not an inexpensive item, but well worth the price for the happiness it brings.
