Customer Review: Anti-splatter tool that seems to work
Summary: 4 Stars

In a moment of total weakness, I ordered this after having to clean out my microwave oven because of a tomato splatter. I've used this cover a few times, and it does seem to work. One thing though, you get a certain amount of condensation on the inside of the unit as things are cooking (no big deal, it's just water). I haven't had any big splatters yet, but the small one just wiped off the plastic afterward (in the sink instead of having to clean up the mess in the micro). It's big enough to put a full size dinner plate on top of, and it works for most average size freezer special commercial dinners. So far I have been happy with the purchase although it seems to be a bit expensive for a piece of plastic. Are you ready for the miracle? The thing is actually made in the USA!

Customer Review: nothing special, a nice plastic cover
Summary: 3 Stars

... in retrospect, it's just another piece of plastic. OK, it's a little stronger plastic than most plasticware and the smokey gray color nicely hides the splatters, preventing stain as well. But lately ...I've been seeing LOTS of similar plastic, microwave plate covers for [less money]. So if you care that much about your microwave plate cover being top-of-the-line, then hey - GO FOR IT! If you're like me, who rather spend the extra buck or two on cookware or china itself, then go for another brand, a made in Taiwan/ China version! One more thing - the HOLE in the middle appears to be unfinished, you can almost feel the rough sawing done to make the hole, seems the edge should have been melted or something so it would smooth out making it easier for your finger to grab.

Customer Review: what type of plastic is it? Is it 3,6,7 (with phthalates)?
Summary: 2 Stars

Hi- I have an old microwave cover. I always put food into glass dishes to microwave them, to avoid plastic leaching into the food at high temps, but didn't think about the microwave cover, where the steam condenses and drips back into the food.

Now today I read a NYT column with the lines "...many Americans still use plastic containers to microwave food, in ways that make toxicologists blanch..." The whole article is at [...]
It also says that the 3,6,7 plastics are the ones with phthalates.
So I think it's important to know what type of plastic the cover is, or even if there are glass microwave covers out there.

Does anyone know this, or how to find out? I'd like to reduce plastics for hot-food use as much as possible. Thanks!

Customer Review: Great product for your microwave
Summary: 5 Stars

This is exactly what I was looking for but could not find in any store, Target, K-Mart etc. Finally did an online search. The ones in the stores have tiny handles that neither my wife (who wrote this review) nor myself could a grip to lift up from the microwaved food. Others that we found were impossible to grasp. This one has a hole in it to vent the steam, covers the entire area of the turntable and when the steam dies down you can put your finger in the top making lifting very easy. I bought two of them - one for the office and one for home. I should have purchased a second one for home so that I would have one to use when the other was in the dishwasher. Very great product and easy to clean. Well worth the money paid.

Customer Review: Good until it breaks
Summary: 1 Stars

I own this microwave cover but I am currently shopping for a new one since this one has broken. I used it maybe 2-3 months, microwaving something 2-3 times a week, before a huge crack splintered from the middle hole. I am not entirely sure how it happened, maybe it got too hot or was in use in the microwave for too many minutes at one time.

Another issue I had was that it was very deep, if I was reheating something in a bowl the top of the bowl was flush with the top of the cover and the cover did not reach to bottom of the microwave. Many times I had a full bowl of pasta or such and it was squished to the top of the cover creating more of a mess on the cover than just regular splatter.
