Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Nordic Ware 64802 Microwave Egg Cooker

Customer Review: the perfect appliance
Summary: 5 Stars

Have had device for several years and cook one or two boiled eggs in it every morning. I set the microwave for 9 and a half minutes, put on the coffee pot and go take a shower. When i come back downstairs the eggs are usually perfectly cooked and the coffee is ready!

On several occasions the eggs have cracked and some of the white has blossomed out into an interesting formation on the side of the egg, but this has happened only seldom and it seems to be random. I have never had an explosion. I am not sure what the user who has explosions is doing wrong, but with the thousands of eggs I have cooked in this appliance, I think I would have had an explosion if there was going to be one.

It could be improved with a handle. It is very hot when done and one must be very careful not to spill the hot water.

Customer Review: great product
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this egg cooker as an experiment, and it has worked way better than I expected. We can boil eggs, hard or soft, and not heat up the whole kitchen boiling water on the stovetop. It does get hot of course so taking the top of the cooker off can be a little hairy. Not a problem if you want hard boiled eggs--just wait for it to cool off or run cold water over it until you can handle it. But when you want soft boiled eggs still hot, you just need to be careful not to burn your fingerprints off!
My son is in a college dorm and I am considering getting him one of these--he thought it was great to get hard boiled eggs in a hurry when he was at home, so I need to check with him to see if they have room in their frig for eggs and then I will probably get one for him.
I really like this product!

Customer Review: not so easy.
Summary: 2 Stars

At first I was so impressed with this item, found in walmart for 4$, I love soft boiled eggs but it always is a hassle for me to cook them the way I like, so this one worked fine in my microwave, then we moved and sold everything, started looking for another one, found it in walmart for 7$, the construction was bad (aluminum parts came off), but I kept it ( didn't know that there are better ones in the market), also even with practice I am still unable to control the softness with my different micorwave, the time, after how long to cool them, it is hectic, they never come the same everytime, also the risk of burning your hands with the spell ( especially with high microwave), the only good thing about it is the very cheap price, but I will pay extra to get something easier and more predictable...

Customer Review: Less messy than pots/pans
Summary: 4 Stars

There must be all of 50 cents worth of plastic and thin aluminum in this product, and maybe 20 cents for the pretty printed package.

Value.... well, this product does what the advertisers claim, 'microwave cook (hard-boiled) an egg in the shell'. We cook two eggs a day in this thing, and we have been doing it everyday for the last 45 days... it works fine. The plastic has not discolored, has not cracked and has not distorted/warped. The only cleanup needed is to wash away the water spots on the plastic cooker shell.

The cooker comes with a small piece of paper that explains the cooking times for different watt size microwaves and the degree of hard boil cooking, i.e., soft, hard, etc.

We have purchased more of these cookers, just to give away to friends.

Customer Review: Easy to use and the eggs turn out perfect!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was hoping that this would work well and it does. I got perfect eggs the very first time I used it.

All you do is put the water in, add the eggs, put the top on and start the microwave. I was skeptical but it really does work.

The only scary thing is taking it out of the microwave. I'm always a little afraid I will somehow drop it or spill the super hot water. But, that hasn't happened. I use an oven mitt when I remove it from the microwave because it is very hot. The whole thing goes in the sink under running water and when it's cooled down a bit, I can take the eggs out and start peeling them. They always peel very easy, too.

The eggs come out just like I like 'em! Soft but firm with a nice yellow yolk.
