Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Nordic Ware 64802 Microwave Egg Cooker

Customer Review: No kidding, it works
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this on a whim -- saw it while surfing amazon for something else.

I am blown away; this thing actually works like it is supposed to. I used to hard/soft "boil" my eggs in an egg cooker (cuisinart), the $30 plug in cooker that steams eggs. I liked cooker, was satisfied with it, but I must say that this microwave cooker beats the cuisinart. Wow. The chart provided with recommended cooking times was accurate.

PROS:
*Easy, very easy to use. Simple.
*Clean. No need to punch holes in the eggs before cooking, therefore now "leakage" to clean up; No need even to put in in the dishwasher (which you can do); just rinse it off.
*Eggs peel easily.
*No need to "watch" the eggs or be around to turn the unit off/

CONS:
*Only cooks four eggs at a time.
*Odd shape to store -- but not a show stopper.

I recommend this to ANYONE AND EVERYONE. I will never ever bother with the sputter and timing of boiling eggs again. I'm still amazed that this thing, so simple, actually works better than a saucpan/water (or any other gadget!)

Customer Review: Gives you Hard Boiled Eggs Eggsactly as You Want
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of those rare products that solves a problem so well, and so inexpensively, that you think about buying a second one just in case this one ever breaks.

It allows you to make perfect hard boiled or soft boiled eggs, just the way you want them, every time.

I prefer eggs that have hard whites but soft yolks, and I can get them that way every time. Hard boiled eggs that are not dry are ideal for taking with you to eat on the go. To get it that way, one egg requires 8 minutes in my microwave, and add 30 seconds for each added egg. Every microwave will vary, so you may need to play around, but I hit it right on the first try.

The product is very well built and the eggs never explode. However, at some point, you'll forget to put the top on like I did, and then the eggs DO explode! The top protects them from the microwaves, while water in the base turns to steam and rises up through little holes surrounding each egg to cook the eggs. Truly ingenious and just an ideal solution. This is one of the best products I've ever bought.

Customer Review: Finally - perfect soft boiled eggs!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love medium soft boiled eggs, but have never quite gotten the knack of it. I have used this product for about a year. I have used it to prepare soft boiled eggs and hard cooked eggs. I would say that my medium soft cooked eggs come out perfectly about 90 percent of the time. Occasionally a shell will crack, but it's still fine to eat. Sometimes the eggs are a little underdone for me, but I just take them out of the shell, mash them in the bowl and pop it back into the microwave for a few seconds. For 2 large eggs I have found that 6 1/2 minutes on high and 2 minutes "resting" works best for me. My microwave lets me set the timer and cooking function at the same time, so I just set the timer for 8 1/2 minutes and the cooking for 6 1/2 minutes and I don't have to do a thing until it's all done. Due to the design of the top, I make sure that I keep it turned upside down during and after washing so water will not collect in the lid and any other moisture will drain out. I have just ordered a second egg cooker for our RV.

Customer Review: The Best Egg Boiler I've Found
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't boil eggs that come out perfectly, too many variables. But with the Nordic Egg Boiler, I am a happy camper. You have to experiment with the first two attempts to get the times right (your microwave power and time to cook the eggs per the instructions). But once you've got it down, you get "soft boiled eggs, medium boiled eggs, and hard boiled eggs (may I add, they are easy to peel, very easy!)". On my microwave, I set the time on high to 12.30 minutes. Thats it. I walk away. The microwave beeps at me. So what, let them sit there. When I'm ready I take them out of the microwave (use pot holders - it's still hot), and run them in the tray over cold water. Perfect eggs, whether soft boiled, medium, or hard boiled. I did not want a machine that had it's own heating elements, those machines in time, will break down from the moisture created, and this will result in increased cooking times or complete failure of the unit. The Nordic Egg Boiler works, it is easy to use, and it is simple to use. Nuff said....

Customer Review: Cool water
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted to respond to the many reviews that said it was hard to open the unit after cooking. Somewhere in the instructions it says to pour cool water over the unit to get it to release. I struggled with the top until I remembered that little instruction...brought the thing to the sink...let cold water pour over it...and the top came right off easily. In addition, the cold water keeps the eggs from continuing to cook from their own heat amd makes them easier to peel. I'm not always one to read all the directions, but in this case, I should have done so from the beginning.

Also, I want to point out that many grocery store brand eggs have a lot of water in them. This may be why some eggs explode and others do not. I use only free-range organic eggs and they always come out fine...never explode. In addition, they are healthier, not bathed in hormones and pesticides. The chickens are raised in their natural state -- pecking happily in an open yard. Happy chickens make healthier eggs. (:
