Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Nordic Ware 64802 Microwave Egg CookerCustomer Review: I am in love with this cute little gizmo Summary: 5 Stars
This is ridiculously inexpensive and it works beautifully. Nothing could be easier, and it makes perfectly boiled eggs every time, because you set the microwave and walk away. (Ignorance is bliss.) When you come back, you have perfectly boiled eggs waiting for you. They peel beautifully and effortlessly, which has been a near-constant annoyance for me in the past. There is nothing worse than pockmarked deviled eggs, and I was the past master of that unlovely little art form. Eggs and I existed in mutually exclusive spheres of animosity and suspicion. It's hard to love something that you forget about, and come back to find charred to a cinder because all the water has boiled away while you were off doing something more fascinating than watching a pot boil. They never do while you are watching, so why do it?! That worry is laid to rest here. Even the most forgetful person, me alas, can not ruin an egg with this wonderful little device. You might want to do a test batch the first time to get the timing right, since not all microwaves are created equal. This is easy to set up, easy to use, makes perfect eggs, cleans up in a jiffy, and when not in use, makes a really cunning little iconic reference sitting on an open shelf in the kitchen. Mine sits cheek by jowl with my Pyrex measuring cups, slyly inviting smiles. This is one of my favorite purchases, and it is cheap portable art too. These days, it is just my husband and I, with an empty nest, and even when I need more than four eggs boiled, it's just as convenient to pop it back in the microwave once or twice more. I don't care how much something costs, as long as it works. This does what it is supposed to, and charms you at the same time. Definitely a bargain.
Customer Review: It works with our microwave. Summary: 4 Stars
It works for hardboiled eggs with our microwave. Our microwave however isn't clear on what voltage so since it's a large model we tried 9 1/2 minutes for hardboil eggs and it works. Our electric EggHead cooker which we love noise and all makes up to 7 eggs. But I wanted a quicker and fewer egg system that is fairly dependable. So far it works and no problems with the top getting loose. But it is hot to the touch when you are done. I let the eggs sit in the unit for it to cool down some before taking out of oven. Be careful upon removing as it still has HOT water. Also sometimes the top where the hole is at has condensation that leaks out between the metal lining when you set the lid down on the counter. Not sure why this happens but some of the time it does. I've learned to watch for it and take a dry paper towel to the unit right away. We have hard water and the amount of sediment in the water can be substantial so we don't let it sit too long and clean it right away...another problem with your egghead the hard water is builds up on the heat element or plate so it doesn't seem to effect this cooker like that. Again I always clean and dry it immediately. Don't like soft boiled eggs in our house so use just for hardboiled ones which we use in salads mostly. I doubt if this would please everyone and I wouldn't want young children to use it for fear they would scald themselves. Otherwise it's simple and direct to use. You might want to copy or tape the directions inside a cuboard door so you don't lose them. I've found that helpful for other simple appliances too with simple directions on how to use.

Nordic Ware Microwave Egg Cooker / B0007M2BN0
I eat a hard boiled egg every morning for the protein boost, but I just hate boiling them in pots because it seems that one of them always cracks and is completely wasted - and it spreads cooked egg through the water and onto the other eggs. Yuck.
This egg cooker is easy and elegant. The bottom half is filled with water, then the "shelf" insert is lowered into place and up to four eggs are placed in the egg-shaped indentions in the shelf. The top half of the egg snaps into place easily, and the entire contraption (looking to me delightfully like the egg on the cover of Alien, but I'm weird that way) is tossed into the microwave to cook for a few minutes.
The instruction booklet offers estimated cooking times for soft, medium, and hard boiled eggs, depending on microwave wattage, but probably every cook will want to experiment with their particular microwave. I've had no trouble at all, and have been perfectly pleased with the results. I can't speak to the cooker being "too hot" after cooking, as I tend to just leave it in the microwave to cool off for several minutes before harvesting my cooked eggs. Generally, I'm not a huge fan of kitchen gadgets for the sake of having gadgets, but I love this one. And - a bonus! - the pretty box the cooker comes with can also be used to store it easily, if you like.

Customer Review: Microwave Egg Cooker Summary: 4 Stars
Pretty good product. Does as advertised.
It will soft or medium boil your eggs, but you will have to determine the amount of time for your particular microwave. Don't leave the lid on the egg cooker more than a minute following cooking or the eggs will probably be cooked well past the soft-boiled stage because the water in the cooker will be boiling hot for a while after you take it out of the microwave.
I found that the sharp edge of a paring knive can be used to pry the top up enough so that you can go ahead and lift it off with your hot-mitted hand. Let the cooker sit one minute and then remove the top, then determine whether more or less cook time is needed for your targeted soft or medium-boiled eggs.
Hard boiled is really easy, for instance if you have a 1000 watt microwave, set the cook time for 6 minutes and after cooking just leave the top on with the eggs in the cooker for 5 minutes or so because the hot water in the egg cooker will continue cooking the eggs until they are hard-boiled.
This product has been around a while. You would think the manufacturer would have improved the base by now so that the cooker is more tip-resistant. That is the reason I gave it 4 stars and with a 4-star rating I am actually being charitable because it is a hazard to use. You can develop a technique that minimizes the hazard, but I would surely be careful about allowing youngsters use it.
Customer Review: Eggsplosion Summary: 1 Stars
If you have a higher watt microwave, use this egg cooker at your own risk! It takes experimentation to figure out the right amount of time for your particular microwave, which may not be a big deal. But the unit has a couple of serious functional problems.
The lid has a metallic inner shell and plastic outer shell with a small airspace in between. There is a vent hole at the very top through both shells. Steam gets trapped in between the shells during cooking, so when you remove the lid and set it down, it rolls to its top and hot water drips out. It's impossible to completely shake the water out through the vent hole and the moisture trapped inside takes a long time to dry.
The lid also popped off the cooker during cooking several times, usually just becoming dislodged a little to one side, but completely off a couple of times. I don't know how that much pressure builds up inside but I suspect water droplets might plug the vent hole. If you don't notice the lid askance and replace it correctly then you could hear a loud "bang" and find egg particles cooked all over the interior of your microwave.
Perhaps the issue is that our microwave is 1200w, but I'd be afraid to try it in a 1000w microwave too. We tried cooking the eggs for longer time at lower power but they came out rubbery.
Even if it did perform reliably, I would still wish it held more than 4 eggs - not family friendly.
