Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Nonstick 4-Piece Egg/Pancake Ring SetCustomer Review: Good but not non-stick Summary: 4 Stars
I've used these once a week every week for over three years. Never had to buy new ones, never had the coating chip, never warped, never broke...my only complaint is that they're not non-stick. I have to coat them heavily (using a basting brush) with oil so that the eggs release from the rings when lifted off the pan. Also, I have to super-heat the rings on the pan (covering the pan with a lid) for a few minutes so the eggs don't leak out of the rings (they cook and seal the gap upon contact that way). Once the rings are heated, I oil them, and then the eggs go in nicely without leaking and the rings lift neatly off when the eggs are ready to be flipped. Not sure how they are with pancakes, I have my own method of making pancakes and never needed to use rings.
Customer Review: Great for small fried eggs and pancakes Summary: 4 Stars
After reading some of the reviews, I almost decided not to buy this egg/pancake ring. Took the plunge and bought it and I have had no problems because I do spray Pam on it before using and then have a spatula on hand in case help is needed in lifting the ring when eggs or pancakes are ready to turn.
I was tired of eggs running into each other and the sometimes unattractive appearance for serving. So, the egg ring gets my vote! I have used the ring when I made pancakes and if you don't mind small pancakes, then the ring should work for you. I do use it more for frying eggs than pancakes.
In my opinion, the benefit of not having "running" messy looking eggs outweighs the one or two minor cons of the egg ring.
Customer Review: Forget pancakes, these are for crumpets Summary: 4 Stars
I love all kinds of yeast raised breads, and recently I discovered British crumpets. These are a kind of thick pancake batter raised with yeast, and cooked on one side until the top is dry. The top is covered with holes, which suck up the butter when you toast them. Crumpets can be made without rings, but they end up thin at the edges and thicker in the center - less than perfect for soaking up that butter. I readily found crumpet rings galore in UK and AU, but finally discovered that they are called 'pancake rings' here in the states. I've never needed rings for pancakes, and several other reviewers are equally mystified as to why anyone would want perfectly round pancakes. So buy these and try one of the many crumpet recipes online.
Customer Review: Love the idea, but the nonstick doesn't deliver Summary: 2 Stars
I had been looking for egg rings (without knowing what such a thing was actually called) for a long time before I happened upon these babies. As soon as I saw them I knew they were exactly what I had been looking for and ordered them on the spot. Unfortunately, my glee turned sour when I tried to use my new egg rings.
A lot of people report they haven't had a problem with sticking, but that is not consistant with my experience. Eggs stick to virtually everything, and these rings are no exception. Trying to remove the ring and flip the egg is a pain, usually I flip the ring and the egg flips with it, and then I have to cut the egg away from the ring so it falls down to the pan.
Customer Review: Happily Addicted Summary: 5 Stars
Thanks to these bad boys, I am well on my way to falling deeper and deeper in to addiction. What is my addiction? McDonald's Sausage McMuffin with Egg. Just typing the name sends me into a tailspin of craving. The morons over at McDonald's, despite my many letters, still have not pulled their heads out of their asses and made these crack cocaine-infused delights available after 10 in the morning.
I had to take matters in to my own hands. I bought a counter top electric griddle and these rings. I have been able to eat home made Egg McMuffins any time of day. If I make sure to wear my 3-wolf moon t-shirt while making them, they taste even better. Booyah!
