Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of New Metro Design Beater Blade for KitchenAid 6-Quart & 5-Plus Mixers, White

Customer Review: I would give more stars if I could!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this at a kitchen supply store at my outlets (it is the same price), and had to try it. I used it that day for cookies, and it works great!! I use my Kitchenaid more now (it actually saves time)!! I have the 6 qt., and it was always very frustrating because the bottom and sides never got mixed, and to having to drop the bowl to scrape was annoying. This fixes both of those problems!! I no longer have to scrape the sides or the bottom!! And, it can go into the dishwasher unlike the Kitchenaid beaters. This is a must have for anyone who owns a Kitchenaid!! I have used mine for a couple of months now, and I have not had any problems with it breaking. If you are contemplating this, just get it, you will love it!!

UPDATE (4-15-2011)!!!

I still LOVE this thing!! I actually decorate cakes, and turned my instructor on to these about 2 years ago. I let her borrow mine, and she kept it. She ended up ordering a supply of them to sell to her students. She has been using it in her classes since she borrowed mine. She uses it to make buttercream, royal icing, cake/cupcake batter, cookies, and fillings. She now cannot live without it. I do not know why so many people say theirs have broken, she uses it almost in a commercial setting, and has not had a problem. You will not be disappointed with this beater. I have seen the new beater Kitchenaid came out with, and it does not even compare (it is plastic as well, but it only has 1 "wing").

Customer Review: Eliminates the only complaint I had of my Kitchen Aid 6 qt.model
Summary: 5 Stars

I own the kitchen aid classic (my first Kitchen Aid, bought it used five years ago and it's still going after using it EVERY DAY) and a year and a half ago got the 6 quart professional mixer. I love the new one, kneads bread better than the classic and handles larger batches of everything. The only thing i preffer my old (and loyal!!!!) classic kitchen aid is that the bowl has a more conical shape opposed to the very round 6 qt bowl. This connical bowl let's me beat and cream small quantities of butter, eggs, cream, egg whites, etc..... much better because the conical shape doesn't allow the food to be thrown against the far walls of the bowl (it happens in the 6 qt when it's small quantities of food) and this beater eliminates this situation. Because it's continually scraping, it creams my batters faster and better and allows me to cream and mix very effectively small quantities in the 6 qt mixer bowl because it gets hold of every gram of food in the bowl. Cheesecakes are a breeze with this beater and creaming and folding cake batter is a dream. I was a little skeptical (and so was my engineer husband) when we saw it was all plastic, I thought it would break inmediately but till know (knock on wood) it has been very very sturdy and hasn't failed yet. I think if you try this you will hardly ever use the metal beater again.

Customer Review: Great Blade
Summary: 5 Stars

I seen this blade in a local store for way more money than I thought it was worth. I came to Amazon.com looking for a bargain and indeed it was a much better price. I have had the blade for over a month and just had a chance to use it over the Labor Day weekend. I have the six quart Kitchen Aid Pro mixer and this blade is fantastic. I must caution you though, READ the instructions on how to ADJUST your mixer. I can see why other people had this blade break with their mixer. It would be very easy just to pop this blade in and assume you can start cooking. I made sure to adjust my blade and I have perfect cleaning action within the bowl.

If you like stopping your mixer to scrape the sides then just keep doing what you are doing. If on the other hand you would prefer to bake or cook with efficiency and not have to keep stopping your mixer to scrape the sides I would highly recommend this attachment. I am not one to collect "gadgets" for the kitchen so each item that comes into my kitchen better get used or it goes to the donation or yard sale bin. This blade will not be going to either of those places.

I would rate this as a highly recommend attachment for any baker or cook that has a kitchen aid mixer.

Customer Review: Warning These are Plastic
Summary: 2 Stars

I had heard good things about these beaters and was excited about trying them. I ordered the six-quart "white" model, as listed on Amazon, and received, instead, clear plastic beaters. I expected them to be metal, like KitchenAid's own beaters (which these are priced them same as), but instead they are cheap plastic. As such they don't, and can't, possibly work as well. A great idea but plastic beaters are a joke in terms of durability and even just plain old mixing strength--something as light as plastic can't cream butter, one of a mixers most basic tasks, let alone work heavy duty as KitchenAid mixers, especially the large heavy-duty model these were purchased for, were designed to do.

UPDATE: One of the tines (K-shape connections) broke on the third use--just snapped, clean through. This was when mixing a double batch of standard cookie dough (basic chocolate chip), something my KitchenAid metal beaters did on a weekly basis, even after years and years of use. Luckily, Amazon stood behind the product due to the inaccurate description (white vs. clear) and took the item back. (So, thumbs up to Amazon, thumbs down to these beaters which were a great idea in theory, but not so great in practice.)

Customer Review: A Better Batter Beater
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned this for over year and can say, compared to my nice stainless steal mixer blade, this is by far a better beater. I make mostly cakes, cheesecakes and breads, with my Pro600 mixer. I use this blade exclusively for the first 2 and my trusty kneader for the bread dough.

This blade has 2 advantages over the mixers beater. First and foremost, it does what it says it will do. It scrapes the side, mixing all your ingredients and leaving less time stoping and scraping the bowl. My cake and cheesecake batters turn out smooth and creamy. Secondly, it is dishwasher safe. After preparing and making your batter, it is all about ease of cleanup and with this you get dishwasher safeness and less time handwashing a stainless steal blade.

Now for those that think this beater blade is flimsy. I would say I have never used it to make double or triple batches of cookie dough. Who would think that this would be the beater blade for a tough, heavy dough like most cookies. For this I do rely on my trusty stainless steal blade.

So if you make any creamy batter, like cakes and cheesecakes, this is possibly the best beater blade you can buy.
