Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Nesco American Harvest PC-6-25-30TPR 6-Quart Multifunction Digital Pressure CookerCustomer Review: works like a charm Summary: 5 Stars
I read many reviews on this before i bought this and here is mine. I think this product is fantastic. It works like a charm and i do not agree with some people when they say some parts are cheaply made and afraid it will break. It is powerful and everything i wanted it to be. Instructions could be more informative. The recipes are slim. I am not sure how this works with other cookbooks yet. I am guessing if you follow a high pressure cooker book it works the same,or a steamer, or a slow cooker.I followed some of the recipes that came with the book and they worked out perfectly. I don't feel confident to make up my own recipes as i would have no clue on timing. The instructions do give you a little bit of info on that but i would suggest if you are interested in this product, to download the manuel first to get an idea about this product. Some recipes tell you to brown things and then dump out the fat and then do something else.. I am terrified to lift the pot out to do this as there is no handle and you better be careful with grabbing the lip of the thing or you will get horribly burnt. Seems a bit dangerous to me. I am surprised more people have not mentioned this.
As far as looks.. it looks very stylish. It is a bit large and you will be cooking larger amounts of food. For single people.. invite guests over... or cut the recipes in half. So i give it two thumbs up.I agree with many that the company needs to update the instructions and give us a decent recipe book so we can really be excited about our product!
Customer Review: Kind of Tricky, but Worth Learning Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this pressure cooker after reading the reviews on Amazon and throughout the web. Almost purchased a more expensive on via a TV shopping show. Glad my order got messed up for that one! The quality of this product is evident even before you open it. The weight alone tells you that it's not flimsy! I've managed to cook Chicken in 30 minutes, Pork ribs in 30 minutes that fell off the bone, and rice too, very quickly. I like the fact that you can cook healthy and fast with this. My best recipe was some pork cut up pieces cooked with water and Iron Chefs General Tso's sauce. The flavor of the sauce gets pressured into the meat. So you not only get tender meat, but flavorful throughout! Added some cut up red potatoes, cooked for 10 minutes longer in the same sauce. Done!
Drawbacks of this product:
The instructions are kind of overwhelming, and there's one part that's not even listed in the parts section (the little condensation catcher plastic looking thingy). I had to call to find out what it is and where to put it.
The vent that has to be totally shut off to actually allow it to build up pressure is difficult to get right. I had to play with it for about 5 minutes to get it to seal the last time I used it.
Customer Service: They are great! I've called them about 3 times with various questions. Only once did they not know the solution (wouldn't stay on). Was my fault as the plug was loose in the back of the machine.
Customer Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased this pressure cooker, never having used one before. My Mom & Grandmother had always used the stove top version but I never learned to cook with it. I was afraid to would blow up the kitchen. As I like to try new recepies and cooking utensils, I thought it was time to try this. I like making pot roast but it never really came out as tender as when I would eat it at restaurants. After reading other reviews I decided on Nesco's PC and have not been disappointed. It works very well and have had no problems. The directions were simple but needed to get a PC recipee book for cooking properly with the right amounts of liquid etc. So I researched several books on Amazon and also at book stores and finally decided on "Miss Vicki's Big Book of Pressure Cooker Recipes", which I also bought through Amazon. I bought a "used" book which saved me some money and was in perfect condition. This book is 470 pages of information on how to properly use a PC and great recipes! I've been testing out various recipes and everything that I have made so far has been wonderful. I am very pleased with both my purchases through Amazon...the delivery was fast and the prices for both items were the lowest I found on the web.
I also like that fact that it realy cooks all foods faster with better, moister taste. Beat microwaving if you are in a hurry. Can also use it to steam food and slow cook food. Definitely a 3-in-1 product!
Customer Review: Liner pot replacement info Summary: 4 Stars
If you ever want to replace the nonstick liner pot, here's how:
Nesco / American Harvest, The Metal Ware Corporation
1-800-288-4545
Product Code: 66706
Product: Liner Pot for 3-in-1 Pressure Cooker
Cost: $19.99
In my case, standard ground shipping was $6.50.
I had a hard time finding the above info, so I hope posting it here will save you some aggravation!
I gave this cooker 4 stars because I generally like it but it could use some design improvements. My pet peeve: the beeping alarm to alert you when cooking is finished isn't optional. In other words, you can't choose to not use the alarm. The alarm will eventually turn itself off if it's ignored. But the beeping seems to go on forever before that happens, and it's very loud and piercing. We have the cooker plugged into a power strip, so we have to walk over and turn off the strip just to kill the beeps.
The other design improvement I'd like to see is a higher max cooking time, which is currently 99 minutes. If I want to cook the food longer than that, I have to run the cooker twice.
Customer Review: Works just like it said it would Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this thing cooking ever since I purchased it two months ago. My old crockpot was ready for the trash and my grandmother's pressure cooker needed a ring replacement after years and years of use. My rice cooker frustrated me with more rice stuck to the side than was edible. This 3-in-1 seemed like the perfect solution. Regarding the floating valve, when the pressure is building I take a knife and jiggle it until it has a complete seal. Sometimes it doesn't seal right away and I don't want to waste time waiting so I make it seal faster. I used to do that with my grandmothers Presto pressure cooker too. Food is great using both pressure cooking method and crock pot method. Must admit I haven't used it as a steamer yet. I'm not a big rice fan and prefer to steam veggies hardly at all so they are not overcooked. I need to experiment with trusting it not to overcook veggies. I would highly recommend this product to anyone with pressure cooker experience or none at all. It's safe and easy to use.
