I would highly recommend NOT BUYING this product. It seems like a great idea and a wonderful way to reduce organic waste going to the dump, however after only one month of having the unit it qot even louder than normal (which on a good day can be very annoying). Upon further investigation there were chunks of metal and styrofoam in the bin. We were forced to unplug the unit. After many many calls and emails to their unfriendly and non-existent support we were told they would ship us some new parts. Remember this is only a month old - now a month and a half later we finally receive the parts however it doesn't fix the issue and now the unit is extremly moldy and unheatlhy to have around as it has had to sit and wait for parts! Now as we work trying to get support to actually answer the phone or an email it sits even longer. UPDATED Nov. 19, 2010: Our unit, which we owned less than two years, blew four circuit boards. Kevin Frye, our primary service contact, took very good care of us by sending two replacement circuit boards after NM replaced the original board when we went the unit back to them (two boards failed subsequent to that repair). Fingers crossed for the new unit. When it works, it's quite handy. We noticed hardly any odor and not much smell (depending, of course, on the composted contents). You do have to watch the moisture and white mold by diligently emptying the container after composting particularly moist "ingredients." The mixing process can be a little loud, but the unit generally produces just a gentle hum. All in all, handy for use in the kitchen or in an urban dwelling.Customer Review: Save your $$$

We have had this unit for ten days. On the second day after carefully starting, using the directions, we had to move it outside because of the smell. The smell has gotten much worse even though we add the sawdust and baking soda. Even with a three year warranty, the company is of little assistance. They only tell us to add more sawdust and baking soda. It is winter here and outside our property is laden with the stench of this gooey, bark brown, mess. Since we can't return it, we are going to toss it in the landfill and never try expensive "green" ideas again. I will never complain about the high cost of organic compost for my garden again. We had considered outdoor methods by are limited by the number of bears in our area.Customer Review: fast and quiet but first batch takes some work

The first time you use this machine you have to set it up just right. It takes a few days for it to get hot and the compost to be active. Be sure to follow the instructions closely for this step otherwise it will get a little sour smelling. Other than that, the operation is very straight forward and it is easy to use to make very fast compost. The smell is earthy like dirt on a rainy day. Even with a big block of cheese or fish guts it does not smell up which is very convenient because we seem to always have a lot of that and we have to constantly empty the trash. The compost is ready to empty every two to three weeks and it sifts very well without a lot of problems later. Don't try wine corks because they don't decompost.Customer Review: Don't buy it.....

Great idea but the product just doesn't work well. First of all, it's loud, Be prepared it is always humming, and it's loud. My wine cooler is silent but the composter sounds like a truck... (ok, maybe not that loud, but it is noisy). It also jams so easily, like all the time. You need to put gloves on and with your hands fish around the try to pry things off the blade... I have had it for a month and still haven't been able to get it to work, jams every day and I put in tiny chopped pieces of soft vegtables.... I just don't get it. Oh, it is smelly, even though I followed the directions, put in baking soda, wood chips, still stinks. Besides all that, it's poorly built. Don't buy it, it's too expensive and really doesn't work.
