Description of Nambé Adagio Crystal Cake PlateThe base of the Adagio Cake Plate, alternately frosted and smooth, swirls into a gleaming disc of full lead crystal. With this functional and beautiful design you'll have your cake and eat it too. Nambé designer Lisa Smith creates classics in crystal that reflect her interest in ballet. Like her Pirouett bowl, the Adagio cake plate shows a beautiful fluid motion. Bands of clear and frosted glass seem to perform a graceful pas de deux on the pedestal base as it lifts and holds aloft the 11-inch clear plate. The fabulous, heavy cake stand is flawlessly crafted of full-lead crystal by skilled European glassblowers, and is gift-box to make a superb wedding or anniversary present. The fine crystal should be washed by hand to preserve its brilliance. Nambé was founded in 1951 in a village of the same name in scenic northern New Mexico. From the beginning, the company focused on hand-producing high-quality, functional items such as sand-cast metal bowls and trays with great attention to timeless, modern design. Porcelain tableware also now joins Nambé's crystal and metal lines, all of which make exceptional gifts for the most special of occasions. Nambé ware has won numerous design awards, has been shown in or recognized by nearly two dozen museums worldwide, and is part of the permanent collections of many, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. --Ann Bieri
