Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of NE VR 29160 BIG CITY SLIDERS

Customer Review: Piece of junk. Same problem as everyone here.
Summary: 1 Stars

My fiance bought this piece of junk trying to be sweet to me because I love those sliders from Chilli's. Like someone else mentioned here, we had a GREAT first batch of five burgers (yes they are small, they are supposed to be for Christ's sake - go to a restaurant they are the same!). I put the second batch on and when I lifted the lid I looked and could see silver all over the grill marks of the burgers. Clearly this is the non-stick coating coming off.

At first I thought maybe I didn't wash it at first well enough (the directions tell you to wash with warm soapy water, which I did, but I thought maybe not enough), but I put it through the dishwasher and handwashed it and had the same exact problems the second time, on the first batch.

And to the person saying you shouldn't have it hot - that's ridiculous. These should be able to be turned on high with no problems. A company that makes this crappy product should expect that some people's medium setting is going to be hotter than others.

Personally I used medium-low because we are at high altitude and I wanted to make sure the inside got cooked before the outside was burnt, so I know temperature was the problem.

Bottom line - save your money! The sliders at a restaurant are usually 6-7 bucks and you still have to buy buns, meat and condiments in addition to this crappy product. Save your family the trouble of getting sick from eating Teflon.

Customer Review: Greatest thing ever
Summary: 5 Stars

This product is one of the best inventions of our time. Seriously. In less than ten minutes, it creates five mini-burgers with which you can experiment with different toppings. The burgers are juicy and cooked evenly throughout, unlike, say, the George Foreman Grill, which dries out burgers and gives them a weird, thin crispiness on the outside.

The only downside of this product is that the measuring spoon it comes with is really too small. If you just go by the spoon, you'll end up with the smallest burgers in the history of the planet. Most of the complaints on here suggest they are too small, but I think those people need to adopt a little common sense: if the burgers are too small, add more ground beef. It isn't rocket science. If you fill the little compartments with meat, you will end up with well-sized sliders (trust me -- go to the grocery store and buy slider rolls, they come in 12-packs. The burgers will come out the exact size of the rolls if you fill the compartments instead of using the spoon).

I have made sliders three times in the last week and, barring a catastrophic, red meat-enduced heart attack that takes my life or renders me hospitalized for an extended period, I'll probably make sliders again at some point this week. This product lights up my life and it's a shame that I cannot rate it higher than five little yellow stars.

Customer Review: Horrible! Not worth time or money
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased a Big City Slider, excited to make my very own "White Castles" at home. I was immediately disappointed. What we thought was going to be a small cast iron pan, turned out to be a cheap aluminum pan, easily dented and 'cracks' if gotten wet while warm. The pan is also not dishwasher safe. Next came actually using the pan. We followed the instructions explicity. Using ground turkey, with very minimal fat, we had 'flare ups' on our stove from the slider pan as it cooked the burgers. After 3 minutes, as instructions recommended, the burgers were still raw in the middle, the top not cooking either. Leaving it on a bit longer (3 additional minutes)we found the bottom of the burgers deliciously BLACK the tops, slightly brown, still red in the center. This was using 1 level provided scoop per cup as the instructions called for. I tried again, using less than a scoop this time, with the same results. Black bottoms, raw centers, and flare ups on the stove from the burgers. After the second attemoted, the pan was immediately washed. Non-stick does not tryly describe this. after soaking and scrubbing for a while, it actually came clean, was repackaged and returned to the store where they were not at all suprised to see it's return. Apparently all they sell of this item keeps coming back! Hmmm, wonder why.

Customer Review: Awesome sliders
Summary: 4 Stars

I got the Big City Slider Station for Father's Day, and used it same day. I enjoyed the heck out of the sliders. I made em just like White Castle. I have to say I just gave it 4 stars because the instructions are a little off. It says it takes 2 minutes to cook over medium heat, and it may for smaller scoops of burger meat, but mine took a whopping 5-6 minutes. So I put the meat in, smashed it down, put raw onions on top, put lid back on and cooked. I put cheese on last on top the onions, with the stove on low, just to melt it. I used half hot dog buns, and they were perfect. You can even put the buns on top for a bit to warm them. I put the meat patty with onion and cheese on my bun, added a pickle, and squirt of mustard, and I swear they were as good or better than White Castle, or Krystal burgers if you're from the south. Clean up was easy too. I would use a low fat meat, got less grease. Might try turkey burgers.

Customer Review: They came out great
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this on tv and just had to get it. It came yesterday and we just had to try it out. Of course my husband the cook had to take over. He put the meat in a bowl and seasoned it just right and then scooped up little balls and filled in the circles. It did take about 4-5 minutes eash time and he had to flip them halfway through. Then came out great! no sticking or anything. They are a bit smaller than a regular slider but they taste just as good. My 3yo loved them. Then came time for clean up. I read alot of bad reviews about it not cleaning up. I put the pan in the sink and put water in the 5 circles and dropped the top on, I let it sit awhile and then took hot water and my sponge and everything cleaned up just fine. There is a few spots that gave me a hard time but I got them out and looks just like new. I love this product and can't wait to try turkey sliders next!
