Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of My Place Myplace Laptop Table Notebook WorkstationCustomer Review: Some thoughts after a year with this little thing Summary: 2 Stars
It's a wonderful concept but falls short in actual use. I have used this little desk with a 15" laptop and a small mouse, always while sitting upright in bed with the stand over my legs. First, the pad area for use with a mouse is nice, plenty of room for even a full size mouse. I don't tilt my laptop more than about one notch but that too is handy -- there are several positions for you to tilt your laptop, iPad or book. I never had a problem with the laptop sliding over the edge but mine was never terribly upright. The teeny light is virtually useless -- not enough illumination to be able to see your keyboard. The little storage area is odd -- why did they design it to open from the front side of the table instead of the back? Not convenient at all if you are storing Post-its, flash drives, pens, etc. and want to retrieve something. The desk is very uncomfortable to use if you fold the legs under and use it as just a tray -- there's no padding or anything of the sort so you would need a blanket or pillow. We're talking hard plastic here, which makes the device fairly light in weight but you don't want it digging into your legs.
Now, let's get to those lap-desk legs. This is what caused me to give it only two stars. They're okay in the shorter position while you're using it in bed, on a couch, chair, that kind of function. When the legs are extended out all the way they're very unstable and lack any kind of locking mechanism. So what, you might say. I always store my laptop on this desk with the legs fully extended and it stays on the floor between uses. I can't tell you how often I've moved or picked it up to vacuum, shove it aside or just pick it up to use it -- and one or both of the legs folded inward and my laptop slid off the side. Gaaa! For the past year I've been thinking I was doing something wrong, it must be that I'm not smart enough to figure out how to lock the legs in place. No, now that I've decided to give this thing away I can see it's a design flaw and I should have smacked myself in the head after the first collapse of the legs, watching my expensive new laptop slide off. Ah well, live and learn.
There are many more choices of lap desks out there, I wouldn't bother with this one. Save your money and find one that's rated higher and constructed better.
